Ohio to Va

The wife and I will be traveling to RVW in Lakeview Oh next month to pick up a Class C we ordered. Hopefully all goes well there (spending the night to double check everything).

Upon leaving there we would like to visit relatives near Staunton Va on our way home (Fl). Google shows the route on I 65 through the George Washington Jefferson NF. Is that a good route as far a road grades ? Places for fuel ?

I've done the I77 to I 81 and know and am comfortable with that area.

Note : I typed and thought I posted this last night but don't see it now? If this is a duplicate I apologize !

I think you mean I-64, not I-65. That is about the most direct route. It's been a quite a while since I have been on I-64 going east from Beckley, WV. Good road, should be a good trip. I checked it out on Good Sam trip planner. There was one low clearance warning about a 10' bridge on Route 11 near Staunton, don't know if you get near it but just be watchful. That route is just under 450 miles.

We stay at shenandoah valley campground a few times a year of you're looking for a place to stay as well. Nicely maintained and a heated pool. Less than 10 miles or so from Staunton.

Just wanted to give you a little heads up about I-64. We have traveled that route several times pulling different campers, beautiful country and views. About 12 miles east of Beckley,WV you will encounter Sandstone Mountain. It is a long climb up but it is even longer on the descent down. Between a 6 or 7 percent grade down for almost 5 miles. It will be a good test for your motor home both going up and down. Be sure to check brakes and be ready to use lower gear going downhill. If you are comfortable with I-77 south, this shouldn't be any problem. Anyway, hope you enjoy your trip and the new Class C.

Thank you Tony!

I am familiar with I 77 both to and from I 81. Are you referring to I 77 south of I 81 ?

Any issues I may have finding gas stations along I 64 in that area ? Best to top off in Beckley ?

I always try to get fuel if needed around Beckley, there are stations along I 64 but most aren't RV friendly. You can also find friendly stations at Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs before going into VA. Oh, I was referring to the Turnpike, I-77 south of Charleston to Beckley. If you are comfortable driving that stretch of interstate then you will be fine on 64. I-64 is a lot straighter with only a couple of the mountain grades to deal with. Again hope you enjoy your trip.

There's construction (at least a month ago or so there was) eastbound on I-64 just before Lexington, VA. Deputy would sit at the end of the construction zone as you are heading east.
I've only been from WV Rt12 to the VA line.... Some decent grades but nothing I wouldn't worry with in my Sunseeker.
BTW..... Gas is cheaper in VA than WV by anywhere between $0.10 to $0.30/ gallon, at least.
