ok, now we have heard about the worse camping experience, how about your best one?

The Worse Camping Experience thread is somewhat funny, not that accidents are funny or damage or getting hurt, but there are some interesting tails there. I am an optimist and what is your best or coolest trip ever?

Growing up, mine was our month long journey from Fla to most of the US and out to the Canadian Rockies. We saw alot of the US things like the Corn Palace in South Dakota as well as Wall Drug, my first prairie dog town at the foot of Devils Tower, Glacier National Park, the hike to the Valley of Ten Peaks and we stayed at this campground in Jasper National Park, Canada called Wilcox Creek. The pit toilets were the worst, but my brother, younger sister and I treked across the road and up this mountain. No trails, no nothing just bushwhacked our way to the summit and the I wish I had a camera, we had a spectacular view of the Columbia Icefield and this glacier. It was breath taking.

As an adult, camping with the kids is awesome and I dont know if it is my best ever, but the kids love the Florida Keys and the boat, so perhaps our Keys trips going night fishing on the reef for Yellowtail, snorkling on the reefs and fishing offshore as well exploring the mangroves and nearshore areas in the kayaks...the one downside to Keys Camping in the SPs are no fires...

What is your favorite spot or best ever?

It's hard to pinpoint the best trip. We've had great times going to many locations. Lake George in NY, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City Maryland, Lancaster PA, South Carolina - we did Carowinds Amusement Park and Nascar Country, visited DEI, ran into Jimmy Johnson and Ralph Sheheen in the parking at Lowes Motor Speedway, Go cart racing at Kenny Schrader's track.
I guess the best would be, every trip when all of my family, wife and three daughters were there, no surprise emergencies, no one ended up at the emergency room, the weather was cooperative and we all had a great time.

There's something about the smell of fresh air and the sound of rustling leaves, that no viagra pill can improve upon. Those are the moments that make camping my favourite.

My best camping experience, on every trip, is thanking the Lord every time I pull safely back into my driveway at the end of the trip.

We had a lot of free time in the summer so my folks would load up the station wagon and the popup and we would take a 6-week trip each year. They were all great and we got to see most of the US on these trips. Most memorable of these long trips were the trips to the National Parks out west. Although driving down to FL and the keys was a very cool thing for someone from WI.

But, I would have to say that the best trips were the local trips that were a few days long and up to a week. We would hit many of the same places several times a year (Peninsula State Park in Door County, Devil's Lake, Governor Dodge).

I have taken my family to all of these parks and we've made them our own special places. So, there would be no "best ever" but instead the memorable trips are the ones from my youth that I've been able to re-introduce to my kids.

My best experience was the 1997 trip to Alaska with my mom and my 2 Heart Dogs, Max and Willow. Sadly, they are all gone now, but I have lots of memories and pictures to commemorate them.

One favorite memory is from last spring while camping at Big Sur and ordering pizza at a restuarant at the next campground over. It was so yummy! I was sitting by the fire eating hot fresh oven baked pizza while watching the river flow by. My brother and s-i-l had a 5th wheel but I was tent camping right next to them so hot pizza at campsite was new to me.

Dry camping in the national forests in Colorado, riding our quads into the high country. Everything from beautiful forests, deer and elk everywhere, old mining ruins, waterfalls, fording ice-cold mountain streams, and breath-taking mountaintop vistas.
Being in the mountains is like being in God's back yard.
