One brake drum getting hot
Hi,
Just recently changed the axle on our 2011 8265 Rockwood and I noticed that one drum heats up way more then the others. I have a Prodigy brake controller and have tried to calibrate but with no luck.... Any suggestions anyone?
Cheers, Anders

Take it to your local tire shop and have them check the brake pads and adjust it for you

Just sounds like one drum has the adjuster higher than the others. Setting your brake controller doesn't do anything to adjust an individual drum. The controller sends out a regulated voltage, equal for all brake drums. On the other hand, are your other brakes working, or is this the only brake doing a job?

Thanks..... The trailer seems to brake good, it is probably like you said that the one drum has the adjusters set up to high.

Since the axle was just replaced, could be failure to properly pack the bearings. A bad bearing will make the brake drum hot also. Drive careful.

Another possibility is failure of the rear seal, letting grease get on the brake pads.

it is more than likely a brake adjustment but i would see if the retainer nut was torqued too tight. i snug mine while rotating, then back off. then tighten by hand then back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
this is just another suggestion, the above are good candidates as well.

Thanks everyone...... wealth of information as always. Bearing is fine, grease OK. Will check in with the next tire shop and see if they can have a look
