Like many others, I leave them open when not in use camping. Hot/humid or otherwise, I would think air exchange is a good thing.

One interesting point....and not one I'm sure makes a difference or not....I close the vents while on the move. I'm thinking the less banging around and bumping there is on the hinged vent cover the better. With a rear kitchen unit, one learns about "bumping around" the first trip out.

Used to be open, but now closed.

We have max air covers and the dead leaves that invariably find their way through the louvers require the covers to be removed to access the space above the screens for cleaning.

I have the Fantastic Fan Vent Covers and bought the screen that snaps inside the cover behind the louvers. Keeps everything except air out. I am sure if you cant buy a snap on screen that fits, you can easily cut a small piece of screen to put in the cover. Works like a charm.

We have generally left them open over the years, even during the winters up here without any issues at all.
