Ordering a new RV

Mentioned in another thread about ordering a new Heritage Glen 272RLS.

Having never ordered one, hopefully those who have can answer a few questions?
1. I understand it can be a 6-8 weeks before delivery?
2. Am I under any obligation to keep the deal. What if I find something I like better 3 weeks from now? Would/Could I lose the deposit?
3. I understand you do not do the final paperwork, etc until the unit comes in?

Any other pertinent information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You are correct about the time it takes to get an ordered unit from the factory. As to the deposit read the contract you signed very carefully and talk to the dealer if you decide on something else and are still buying from them there may not be a problem. However if they incur delivery costs and you walk away that may be a different story. Myself I would not do the final paper work until the actual unit was on the lot. Keep in mind what I'm saying is just my opinion and not legal fact.

When we ordered ours the dealer gave us the '6 - 8 weeks' time frame also. It was at the dealer 7 weeks to the day we placed our order. It's not only build time you have to think about, there's delivery time also. Spring is a busy time, many campers being built and not so many drivers to get them to dealers. IMHO I would make darn sure it's the camper you really want before putting down any deposit. Final paperwork is done after the PDI.

Did not have to order after all...

The dealer (General) has another location about 3 hours from here. They had the model we wanted there, but not with all the options we wanted (2nd A/C, ladder).

They offered to bring the unit here and install the ladder and A/C at factory option price.

Come to find out that there was a new price list that came out as of 11/16/15. Prices went up significantly...the base price of the unit itself went up $4,0000. With the options it would have been another $600.00 increase. So, a happy camper not having to order!

We are suppose to pickup next Saturday at 1pm.

Have you shopped the numbers on that camper? Sounds like you have some time to do that. I have never heard of anything going up 4K overnight as a manufacturers increase, especially when we're talking TT's and not MH's.
That sounds like the dealer trying to unload a stock unit that has been sitting around and in that case you should be getting a huge discount. Come to think of it don't the increases come with model year and not in Nov?

Your original questions,
1-Probably 8+ at this time of year. Was just told 8 last Thursday while talking with factory on another brand. Previous unit took 7 weeks to the day and it was at the dealer. They are also having the spring delivery backlog.
2- That's why they have it for people backing out because they "changed their mind". If it says non-refundable you can always cross that out and add something like "refundable based on inspection and acceptance of factory build quality". HAve it initialed by both you and the GM, not the salesman and have a witness. If you change your mind because you fins another model you like more you deserve to forfeit it.
3- Thats usually the way it works. Sometimes they will get you to sign before the PDI. I am sure that sometimes that's just the way the schedule is working out, but do not do it. Wait until after the inspection.

They gave me a copy of the MSRP Price sheet of 11-16-15. So, I could see the numbers.

Old price sheet MSRP: $44,967, new price sheet MSRP: $49,614

Ok, maybe I just don't trust dealers. Its very easy to alter one of those MSRP order forms. I have personally seen them different from dealer to dealer so I know it happens.

It just strikes me as strange. I'd get a check number from another dealer or two, RVW carries Heritage Glen I think. An email and a quote request cost nothing.

Good luck.

1. I understand it can be a 6-8 weeks before delivery? Yes, depending on mfgr. and popularity.
2. Am I under any obligation to keep the deal. What if I find something I like better 3 weeks from now? Technically your deposit belongs to the dealer if you back out, but I've never had a deposit kept. Its easy to back out if you use your own financing and it doesn't get approved.
3. I understand you do not do the final paperwork, etc until the unit comes in? Correct, but you need to do a satisfactory PDI before signing.

MSRP numbers are unreliable.
Dealers often manipulate them.
You could find different MSRPs, for two exact trailers, at two different dealers.

Best way to get a good price is to search Internet for what they are selling for then base your negotiation on that.

I ordered a micro lite 21'8" in February 2015 did not get it till June. Had 5 weeks of vacation time with no camper. Very upset!! I was told 6-8 weeks. Make sure you check for any damages before you sign the computer. We had 2 small damaged areas and they never fixed it before we left. We love the camper. Good luck!

Ordering a new RV

Columbus RV has that model on sale for $25,995 on the Internet. That's in Columbus Georgia. Six hour ride for you.

I did talk to them...sounds like they could save you a lot of cash. They would charge $1,620 for delivery to my neck of the woods. Even then savings would still be significant.

The only down side is that they do not like to deal with trade ins since they are a wholesaler. They will do it, but then would have to haul my 5er up there. It is paid off, so could try and sell retail.

Sometimes you can get a better price for your old camper by selling it outright. It depends on how old the trade in is.
