Oregon

So I went into my local Ford dealer today to get the straight goods on the towing capacity of a F150 3.5L Ecoboost. My vehicle of choice. Was promptly told by the salesmen ( 2 actually ) that a 150 won't tow a 5th wheel that Ford only recommend 150's for trailers!!. I informed him that when I was at the dealer on Saturday looking for a F250 diesel that I was told I needed no more than a 150 and that the sales manager currently has a 150 and a 5th wheel and loves it. These guys go on to say that the state of Oregon will not allow a 150 or half ton for that matter towing a 5th wheel on their roads(What). He went on top say that he had a nearly new F250 diesel in stock and that he would give me a great deal. Well the truck is a beast and 20K over my budget. So I leave totally pissed and convinced that I would never be back. So off I go to another dealer where I meet who was for me the best car salesmen I ever met . The guy was great immediately prints out a document indicating tow weight of 13200 lbs with a cargo weight of 3230 lbs. We then proceed to build a quote choosing the desired options and pick a vehicle that ended up having 13200 tow with cargo of 5000 lbs Although the documentation went on to indicate 10500 gvrw for 5th wheels. Sorry to ramble but felt background info was relevant. Question does anyone have any experience towing a 5th wheel in Oregon with a F150 or half ton truck?
thanks
in advance
John

Hi John,

I have an F-150 with the 3.5 EB and love it for my 6000# tt. While the eb has all the power in the world for the 6000# tt, I’m not sure I’d attempt to pull a 5th wheel with it.

Not sure what you mean by cargo of 5000#?

This is why I asked. No F150 configuration has a 5k payload. John, are you referring to payload?

Just for clarity’s sake. You can get over 5k payload when the 14k GVWR pkg is selected. [emoji41]

What would a dealer in BC, know about Oregon towing laws?
I've never heard of any such law in Oregon.
Sounds like the salesman wanted to sell you a more expensive truck.
There are only a handful of 1/2 tons capable of towing a 5th wheels and the 5th wheel choices are very limited.

Geez, somebody screwed with that quote printing system. That's 7000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), not payload. Payload is 2050 lbs, see page 3.

Jack, GVWR is NOT Payload. That's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. 7000lbs is the most the truck weigh.
Payload is GVWR minus Curb Weight.

The first question to me is when did the state of oregon ever check what you were towing with. Lived there for thirty five years and never had any authority question what I was hauling or towing with a privately plated vehicle.
Think you got in with a real pickle of a salesperson.
