Our Unexpected Arrival at the CIA

Yup we missed a turn while driving around the DC area in our little Mini toad. So we take a left into what first looked like a parking lot in order to reverse course. There were no signs until we actually got in and those had no trespassing on them. Later using Google we discovered it is a CIA complex!

But I spot a turn around and before we knew it we were stopped by 6 guards with bullet proof vests, guns, tazers, you name it they had it. Yup they spotted those dangerous AARPers in that Mini coming nefariously close to the facility. I was given several questions to answer and threatened with citations (or worse) if I should venture into their driveway again. I tried to look impressively scared at what he could do to us but it was too hard to act the part so I just remained polite.

It did finally hit them that we were in fact lost and not likely a pesky pair of elderly trouble makers from that dastardly AARP group. So he gave us directions and a final bit of advice never to come back. First time I've been told that in over 40 years when I was in college.🤣

So if you ever find yourself lost after leaving the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum near Dulles on Air and Space Museum Parkway DO NOT EVER TAKE A LEFT AFTER ROUTE 28 INTERCHANGE. Your loved ones may never see you again!!!

Talking

In today's world that is what I expect on a government installation. Good that they realized that you were only lost souls. Spooky sure, but hey they did not revoke your citizenship and deport you to Illinois.

I suppose it is fun to mock them, but a big RV could have been carrying a lot of explosives or who knows what else. Guards did exactly what they should have done.

If a terrorist showed up and did something, everyone would have said "why didn't they do something... a big RV just drove up and nobody noticed?"

I realize they probably have the script of what to say down pat. But when he ever said "next time we'll have to really give you a checking out and maybe other stuff might come to light" inside I about burst a gut trying not to laugh while appearing to take his comments seriously. I mean we must have looked like the Howells from Gilligan's Island out for a drive in a Mini Cooper.

Or worse yet they could have been deported to California.

Yep, Feds with sunglasses have no sense of humor!

I've spent many months at Tonapah Test Range (TTR) in Nevada and the northern gate often had the curious trying to get a peak at an other-than-earth "person" but the civilian poo-poos had VERY high text gear (hidden) so the curious didn't even make it close to the gate before being surrounded.

(Y'all can look up what TTR is but remember that 99% of the stuff on the internet is crapola.)

Oh, cut that AARP card and get AMAC....MUCH better organization, IMHO.

Our Unexpected Arrival at the CIA

I was in Shreveport LA and got in the wrong lane...you will enter barksdale AF base. I was just in my PU, but I always have a gun or two. Luckily I was nice and so where the armed guards they allowed me to turn around and leave, but I was "in" the base.

Driving a Mini Cooper is enough to to raise my suspicion. If they had whipped out their AARP cards, well, that would have put me on full alert.

I probably would have found myself at GITMO. Way to much opening to have some fun. But, on the other hand you have to give it to them for protecting the country.

They all did have sunglasses. I felt like I was in a Doonesbury CIA scene. 😁

Last June we and another couple were finishing up a sea land cruise/tour and drove to The Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Washington. Our friends son is in the Navy and we thought since we were in the area we'd just pop in and look at the "visitor center".
Well there isn't a visitor center at that base and they stopped us at the
gate and help up traffic while they looked over our pass ports and drivers licensees and called it in. We sat there about 10 minutes while cars lined up behind us.
We told them we just figured an air base would have a place for civilians to visit. Not!
They let us go with a not too stern a warning.
Mostly we were embarrassed and sorry that we held up the folks trying to get to work on time...

It's all part of the adventure!
