If you are putting the 50A on a 30A, you just add a jumper between L1 and L3 terminals.

I have a progressive industrys 50 a portible,are these ok? its a mod ssp-50.

that model is just a surge protector. Does not offer protection from all the other things that often go wrong.

I noticed in the manual it says never plug the EMS into an inverter. If its hardwired, how do you deal with using your portable inverter/generator? With the portable units, I just leave the EMS off the shore line.

It does surge,open nuetral,open gnd,polarity. What else is there?

I just grabbed this link from the surge protectors thread. Its a pretty good comparison of what each unit will do for you.

I'm in the market for one, leaning toward the HW30. But the inverter thing is interesting. May have to call Progressive on that.

If you can, you want to get the EMS-PT50 its portable and will cover you for almost everything and is warrantied for life.

high or low voltage is very common and very dangerous to anything electronic. Low voltage happens in summer when everyones AC is blasting

That was my concern and why I went with a portable unit so I can select when to use it.
