Oven Pilot Light

Do most people leave their oven pilot light lit the whole trip when stationary or do you lite it each time before you use it? We don't use our oven that much (once or twice during a three day trip), and it seams like we always turn the oven off and turn the pilot light off. They are designed to remain burning all the time and I would think use very little LPG.

We never leave ours on...of course we rarely use the oven except to store pots and pans.

You are right that LP usage is minimal, but if you ever forget to turn it off and then stop to gas up and the fumes find that open flame...well, then I leave the rest to your imagination.

I could be wrong but I think that once you turn the oven off the pilot light goes off also. This would be a safty factor. I think I like most will store many things in the oven. The propane usage all adds up however.

If you cut the oven knob back to pilot instead of the off position, the pilot light should stay on.

Summer time, we always cut the pilot light off. In the winter time if we look to use the oven some, we leave the pilot light on.

Had lovely homemade bread on last weekend's trip and used the pilot light in the oven to get it to rise. Easy and quite yummy. So far we've had good luck with the oven - it's cooked evenly.

We turn ours off when we are done with it. That way you don't forget about it. Besides. . .you're on camper time. They don't take that long to get lit and it's much safer to just light it when you use it (IMHO)

Same here for us, besides, in the summer when it is warm it is surprising how much heat that does put out.

Always light it each time the oven is needed.
