When I am traveling either in my MH or not, I will stop at a well lit rest area for a few hours sleep. I have not had any problems.

Cracker Barrel for us, no problem and usually we are not the only one's spending the night. We have done this on multiple trip's.

I love the iPhone app Trucker Path. It tells u about rest stops and truck stops, how many sites, when it fills up, what amenities and restaurants are around. The truckers also post reviews about services, cleanliness and negatives like hookers😳. Gives u agood idea of whether or not to stay there.

We always stay at a campground. I always plan the trip and find a campground at around the 350 - 450 mile range. That way we get a good rest, and the truck gets a rest. Especially on those long hot summer days. 2011 Silverado 2500HD Duramax / Allison 2013 Sabre 34REQS - 6. 2015 Camping 42 nights. 2016 Camping 0 nights.

we usually travel long distances in winter or spring and temps can get a little cold, but I and the wife do rest areas after a long day of traveling... the truck stops can be noisy with motors running and trucks pulling in and out all night, but it does not keep me from sleeping 4-5 hours with a good warm blanket...

I've stopped in rest areas for a few hours of sleep when I need to. I have to use the semi parking anyway.

May be a dumb question, but when you pull over for the nite in a rest area...is there any point in dropping down the stabilizer jacks? I'm guessing just keeping it attached to the truck is fine.

We full-timed for 10 years.Stayed in many Walmarts, truck stops and even mom and pop restaurants and grocery store parking (always asked permission). We never once had any problems and never once had the need to to shoot someone.

I use walmarts and truck stops but I also check freecampsites.net. Often times I find a city campground or boondocking site on the way to where I am going.

We don't drop any stabilizers (or our landing gear) when we stop for the night.

I unplug the umbilical cord because the camper will draw power from my truck (2012 Ram).

when we stop at a welcome center/rest area we don't do anything that isn't necessary, we're just there to sleep,.....its usually late, 10-11pm, ..... we do have to run the slideout out to bring down the Murphy bed, but that's only 19" out ....don't unhook, no stabilizer jacks down, nothing that isn't necessary,.... makes leaving the next morning, going to breakfast much easier/faster.......

I've never put my jacks down but I have seen some do it. I can get to my bed with the slides in. My previous camper (2012 Grey Wolf 21RR) didn't have any slides and we could get to the bed pretty easy.

Now, slides- we "have" to put 2 of them out. Otherwise, we can't get the kids back to the bunkhouse. And our bedroom is more comfortable with it out. We will do 3 slides on one side and park such that they're out of the way (otherwise, we won't stay there for the night).

Rest area twice, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge once and a pull thru in a small RV park once.
