We full-timed for 10 years.Stayed in many Walmarts, truck stops and even mom and pop restaurants and grocery store parking (always asked permission). We never once had any problems and never once had the need to to shoot someone.

I use walmarts and truck stops but I also check freecampsites.net. Often times I find a city campground or boondocking site on the way to where I am going.

We don't drop any stabilizers (or our landing gear) when we stop for the night.

I unplug the umbilical cord because the camper will draw power from my truck (2012 Ram).

when we stop at a welcome center/rest area we don't do anything that isn't necessary, we're just there to sleep,.....its usually late, 10-11pm, ..... we do have to run the slideout out to bring down the Murphy bed, but that's only 19" out ....don't unhook, no stabilizer jacks down, nothing that isn't necessary,.... makes leaving the next morning, going to breakfast much easier/faster.......

I've never put my jacks down but I have seen some do it. I can get to my bed with the slides in. My previous camper (2012 Grey Wolf 21RR) didn't have any slides and we could get to the bed pretty easy.

Now, slides- we "have" to put 2 of them out. Otherwise, we can't get the kids back to the bunkhouse. And our bedroom is more comfortable with it out. We will do 3 slides on one side and park such that they're out of the way (otherwise, we won't stay there for the night).

Rest area twice, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge once and a pull thru in a small RV park once.
