Low Clearance POI - GPS Data is the one that I know of the most. I don't know the quality of it's data, though.

Not an app but the Garmin 660 GPS is what I have. You put in your height and it will route you around low clearances. They make a 770 model now. My unit is 2 years old. Bought it for 340.00 from Amazon.

When leaving the dealership with my new 5th wheel... "Oh you're under 13' you'll be fine"
About a mile or two down the road we go under a railroad track posted 13'3"...
After I got home and measured I'm 13'2" 😨

The Garmin RV GPS is what I have - like said above enter your height, width, length, weight and propane and it routes you appropriately.

Overpass heights....

I doubted this at first but heard that AllStays Camp and RV showed heights and percent grade warnings.

I examined my route home and most my concerns were put to rest but two spots were not marked, one tunnel and one short steep run. I wrote the author, got an immediate answer. Now they show up.

This is a screenshot from the RV Parks and Campgrounds app I got from the Google store. I don't think it will let you route but it has a layer for low clearances. I don't have many down my way so I'm not sure of the accuracy but it looks interesting.

If I can figure out how to get those clearances on straight Google maps it would be interesting.

Step 1: Measure your camper. Don't rely on what the manual says.

Step 2: If you see a sign that gives a clearance shorter than your measured camper height, don't go that way.

I have the Rand McNally Trucker’s guide and would have suggested it but my mind focused on software vs OR INFO aspect of the OP’s question. Is there a software version?

Just saw this ad in my latest issue of Trailer Life called “GiraffeG4 System”. It sounds decent for what it does. You can check it out at GiraffeG4.com. I am not a rep or associated with this product.

I have a Rand McNally 7720 GPS that will not route you down a highway with a low clearance (you have to input your trailer height). BUT, it only works when you have entered a route to a specific destination. If you're just driving with the map feature enabled there is no warning about low clearances.

Interesting. Since my TV is a 2001 and I have an iPhone/iPad with directions going, an add on brake controller, a 7” backside camera, and a TPMS display, my gut reaction was another display?? This would be great if the sensor fed into just one of my existing devices, I.e. as a background app that interfaces with my Maps/Google Maps app.

While we are at it, let’s send the low ceiling data back to the map makers so they can warn me while planning my route. The last thing I need while pulling my 5er is a low ceiling alarm as I pull to within feet of it. [Scratch that, it is the VERY LAST thing I would want to hear but it would be better than nothing...] At $200 suggest sale price...

Ill even go further and say give yourself a 6" margin. My camper measures 11'. If the clearance sign reads 11'6" or less, Ill go another way.

I agree you should give yourself about 4 - 6" of additional clearance. A lot of states do not update the height signs even though they added 3 or 4" of asphalt on the road. When I first left the Army I worked for a freight company and several times we had a 13.5'trailer hit a marked 14' overpass, when the insurance company went out and measured the height they found it to be only 13'-5".

in all our travels, I've yet to see a bridge overpass that we could not navigate under - we are just shy of 12' including AC units and Dish Antenna, while on full air bags.
We DID have a anxious moment north of downtown Chicago where we made a turn and were suddenly presented with an overpass shown as 12'0" Height. We made it thru, though the first one of these you drive under will test your will, and your pride, as sometimes there are no other options, if traffic is blocking you.

Here's what we've realized since then - markers are designating the lowest point along the width of the road way(the edges typically)... but since your HIGHEST point is along the center-line, and your highest point of your RV is your AC unit(typically), which is in the middle... very few bridges will keep you from your travels.

Another story: Fruita, Colorado - the entrance to the Colorado National Monument 'drive' thru the beautiful and awe inspiring red cliff faces, rocks, and mountains - the sign at the entrance states "10'6" tunnels ahead". Really??
I pulled up to the gatehouse, a fee is required for the drive(and they also have a campground at the top of the drive, nice), and inquired about the sign. "Don't worry", she stated, "we don't know why that sign is there, other than they want to 'scare away' larger RVs and Motorhomes from driving through, but we'd love for you to enjoy the drive, Don't worry, the tunnels are actually over 13'6"... just drive down the middle".

Our drive was SPECTACULAR... take the time to make this drive! and None of the few tunnels were any issue for us.
