PDI help in Ohio

We are purchasing a new fifth wheel from RVW in Lakeview Ohio. As this is our first RV I would like to hire a private company to come out and help with the PDI. They would know a lot more about what to look for than I would and how all the systems are supposed to operate. Doe's anyone know of a good company in the area that would be able to do this? Thanks

Don't know why you would want to hire someone . There is a PDI file you can down load from this site which can walk you through the hole process. Later RJD

I downloaded and printed the file. Half of it is Greek to me. As I said, it's our first one. We will be having it shipped to Florida and full timing in it. Truck will come a little later. So I just want to make sure I don't miss anything.

The PDI is for YOU to see how things work. You don't want to call somebody every time something comes up. You're gonna full time, and have it shipped home? I would use it right out of the gate, close to the dealer, in case something isn't up to snuff...

Its the little things (or big things) I'm worried about. Like caulking and seals and stuff underneath. And making sure everything works as it should.

If you are buying a used rig then you need an inspector. If you are buying a new rig then it should be good to go and is warranted. The PDI is for your benefit so you know how stuff works. You should have looked for problems before you bought the rig, not during the PDI...

Its a new rig. We are in New Jersey, buying in Ohio and having it shipped to Florida. We will be going to Ohio for the PDI before its shipped. We do not have a truck yet so we want to make sure all is working as it should be and anything wrong in manufacturing is fixed before its shipped. Just not experienced enough to know what to look for when it comes to the sidewalls, the undercarriage, caulking, things like that.

Also, any forum members in the area willing to help. There's a lot of experience on these boards.

Hmmmm ....are you getting it at that good of a price?? Once you figure in your time, your gas and lodging back and forth to Ohio and the shipping costs would it not be cheaper buying it in Fla. There are plenty of major dealers in Fla that seem to offer some good prices. Just a thought....

Steelpony5555, we will be saving almost $2000.00 even with the shipping to Florida. And we plan on cutting that cost by calling U-ship to see if someone can take it on a back haul. We found our model at 2 dealers in Florida. But did a lot of research and the service after the sale from both dealers gets horrible reviews. RVW gets all positive reviews and the owner is very active on these boards. So we feel better about buying from them. As for the driving, Ohio is only 8.5 hours from here. We have done 6 to 8 hour drives just for day trips. I loooove to drive. Close to 200,000 miles on my Honda Element and it's only 6 years old.

Read RVW's service policy and go on dealer reviews on this website. I have also contacted a couple of mobile service companies that will do FR warranty work. I would never let a dealer work on my RV. Especially not the ones that carry the one we are purchasing.

Anything major I can borrow a friends truck. But we will have one within the first 6 months. One major purchase at a time. Boy did this thread get way off track.

OC goes to Florida for 3 months during winter. Hear he makes 'house calls'. Just different points of views, in case you might have over looked something.......sounds like you've got a handle on it, though.

I've been researching buying an RV for over 6 months now. Finally narrowed it down to one model and one dealer. I've been in contact with every dealer in Florida that carries this model as well as some that said they could and couldn't. I also found the vice president of the Florida RVIA or some other important letters who also owns an RV repair shop near where the RV will be located for the first couple of years. He gets great reviews on Angie's list. That's how I found him. Called him and he told me no problem doing FR warranty work.

Be careful. My daughter and family just purchased their first rv and I went and helped with the pick up. Her husband, who is very mechanically inclined and I, who has 25 years experience with rvs looked the unit over for quite some time. We checked all the items one would check on a new rv. Looked ok. They took it home and set up a indoor stroage for the winter. When he was prepping for storage he noticed water on the floor. Then he started looking inside cabinet s and storage areas and found a big problem. Water stains all over the rv. We checking everything and even climbed a ladder and checked the roof for caulking. Well it went back to the dealer and not only was there damage at floor level, the roof was soft and the tech almost fell thru the top of the slide. I believe the unit will be replaced but we have not heard back yet on the remedy. Anyway, be careful and look everywhere you can.

Are you taking delivery in Ohio when you do the PDI? Reason I ask is that my dealer presented the final paperwork to me to sign before delivery. They were not happy with me when I explained that I was doing a Pre-Delivery Inspection and wouldn't be signing any paperwork if it failed inspection.

That's the kind of stuff I'm afraid of. The things that I'm not experienced enough to see or check for. Figured a reputable pro would be a good investment.

Yes. Going to Ohio for the PDI. And not going to sign for anything until problems are fixed.
