Personal Finance Software

Been a user of Quicken for years, but tired of them making you buy a newer version every few years...or lose some functionality, such as being able to download transactions from your bank.

Looking to see what others are using/recommend?

I've been using tax act for many years now. Cheapest out there and just as comprehensive. Best thing is it retains my capital losses so auto fills the remains balance of them every year.

I would love to find an alternative to Quicken also. But cannot find anything with all the features

I didn't know Quicken has to be updated. I've been running the same version since ~2007.
A lot of software firms are moving toward cloud-based subscriptions. Not a good thing.

Is TaxAct Personal Finance Software or just income tax prep and filing software?

Depends on what features you use. If you download transactions from your banks/credit card/investments.

From Quicken:

If you do a google on "Best personal finance software" you will get some reviews/top 10 etc.

Quicken. I expect all good personal finance software/web solutions charge you for necessary upgrades.

Tax prep and filing. It's not taking all the quicken like stuff. I collect my own stuff, enter it. Quicken us too much for this ordinary citizen.

I'm not a big upgrader. I've had three versions of Quicken. 1998, 2004, and 2017. Really, the only reason I picked up 2017 last year was a new computer build and lost my install discs. Downloading directly in is a time saver, but it's not a necessity.

I work in IT, so agree to some extent. But, when they "force" you to buy the newer versions.

No, I do not need to purchase the newer version to continue using Quicken, so I have the option. But, I like to use the functionality that they are taking away if I don't buy the newer version.
