Picked up a little special something last trip!

I noticed this while the camper's sitting in the driveway after our last trip. It's a pop rivet...I've pulled it out a little for the photo. The tire is still holding full pressure.

Nice...not what you want to see! I had a BMW X5 that picked up a stucco/siding nail in the sidewall. Of course that meant a tire replacement

I picked up a pop-rivet of my very own over Labor day. I was lucky to make it back home and found the tire all the way down 2 days later. Then I learned how to change tires on my new TT!

I have a one foot long 4x4 with each end cut to 45, loosen lugs pull good tire on block replace flat with spare.
Replace lugs pull off block tighten lugs put stuff away drive to tire shop.

Dave-Monica: You've been very helpful to me in the past so I'll help you this time...
If you just leave the rivet in and add about 300 more you'll have a great snow tire. See...it was meant to be. Well, add 300 more or take 300 trips to the same place.

I'd be concerned about the possibility that it's an unused rivet and that the 4" nail that works to "Pop" it is inside the tire. Since you've got sidewall damage, I'd be surprised if any tire shop would risk repairing it.

As it turns outs, the rivet is in the spare that I had just mounted before the last trip...had never been on the camper before.

I'm waiting for a set of Marathon LR D's to be delivered as these OEM Duro tires are 4 years old...changing a little earlier then I planned, but that's the way it goes.

I hate foreign body tire damage--dammit, they wear out quickly enough on their own...

I just replaced all 4 tires that my dealer put on "new" when I bought the trailer in October of '11 (not quite 2 years now.) I didn't really notice that the tires the dealer put on were ST225/75D15s. "D" is the right load range, but the "D" in the name apparently means the tire is a bias ply and not a radial. So I had them all replaced with ST225/75R15s, and I bumped up to load range "E." I figured with all the stuff DW has put into the camper, a higher load range can't hurt!

Had the same thing happen to my truck tire in almost the same location. If it would been about one inch closer to the center of the tread it could have been repaired. But nooooo. :-)

It's amazing how often the sidewall area takes the hit. If I didn't know any better I'd swear rotating tires create a magnetic field along the sidewalls....
