Chuck:

In the three years we lived in Hampton (71-73), we only had snow once. Most of our discomfort was the humidity, from late March through early October. When Boeing asked if I'd like to re-enlist, we were on the road back to the NW in just a couple of days!

Momma and the kids were more able to handle the humidity and the skeeters than I was, but I think we were all glad to get back to Washington. Now retired after a combined total of 30 years with the Kite Factory and still in western Washington. Don't plan to ever leave, even in a wooden box.

I've been winterizing for 15 years in Minnesota, I usually buy whats on sale(this year it was Splash -50), and have never had any problems even with some winters reaching -40 F. I did check the bottle in my garage and it is frozen to a firm slush. I hope this puts your minds at ease some.

We have -20 and colder up here in Minnesota eh. Never had a problem with RV pink anti-freeze. So far this year is been a cold one up here.

Hey, great info analysis guys. I like the post with the data about non-expansion upon freezing. That, IMO is very good information and seems that if you properly apply the "pink stuff", you probably have nothing to worry about. So, if anybody has pipe damage after this global warming period has passed, let us all know.

I just winterized mine yesterday on our return trip from Florida to Kentucky. I used the -50 stuff that I got from Camping World. So I'm hoping mine doesn't freeze in the temps that we have here, and will have for the next week.

I made it down to Florida last Saturday, drove 19 hours by myself, beat the Snow and Ice storms NY, Virginia, NC where having. Sunday my brother in law flushed all my anti-freeze out, washed it and I'm ready for the dog agility trials I'm hitting for the next 6 weeks here. Nice to be in flip flops during the day.........

DBsRedVette, Glad you have the opportunity for you to wear flip flops. We just spent two weeks at Daytona, and with the exception of the day of the 500, I would have thought we never left the north.

We just got hammered with 9 inches of fresh snow here in eastern Va, I am over it. Sun and flip flops sound great.

Planning some water system work now that I can get to TT (snow melted) and will need to drain some antifreeze to accomplish it. This got me thinking. Why leave it in in the first place. If you blow out the water lines and then fill them with antifreeze you could just as easily drain the antifreeze and have a freeze safe system as any low spots or spots that did not drain well would have antifreeze in them. Probably no advantage to doing this but should work.

Thats exactly my plan for next winter! Blow lines , pump antifreeze thru everything and then blow out the lines again.
Yep I got that tip from someone else on the forum!

I blow mine out first, then add pink antifreeze, top up the traps, and some extra in the toilet.. I don't flush it out til spring, as I still need to flush the system with clean water anyways.. Lotsa different ways to do it, and so long as you get all the water out that's all that matters..

I'm with you Platokidd. I've been blowing the lines out first and then run RV anti freeze through all the lines and then blow it all out again. I've been doing it this way for over 20 years and have never had a problem.
