I bought a 12"X12" piece of unglazed ceramic at Home Depot for 57¢ USD. I wrapped it with several layers of aluminum foil BEFORE we used it in the oven. We placed it on the shelf above the burner and baked a pan of biscuits to perfection. We didn't have burnt bottoms as before... and, Yes, the tile broke with a pop during the experiment but the parts didn't separate because of the foil wrap.

We use an airbake cookie sheet and place biscuits and sweet rolls in a bright aluminium pan on that. We haven't burned any since. This works better than a pizza stone! We used a pizza stone for several years until we swapped to the airbake sheet and it's way better and lighter.

Slate may shatter. Very porous and will pop as the water bakes out. Used to make rocks explode by soaking them in water then outing by the fire.

Been using a California Stone pizza stone for about a year and a half.
I heated it slowly, something around 200• for 15 minutes and just started cranking it up slowly until I had the oven maxed out. Probably spent an hour and a half seasoning it. It's been great so far, wife used it last trip for pizza of all things 😎
The stone I bought was too large for the oven, I cut it down with a grinder set up with a diamond blade. Nice and tight fit now which limits the vibrations.

Ours broke in half, second use but it still does the job. Just use it broken as it still does the job, broken or not....

HI,
We use (to very good effect) four unglazed, 6" ceramic tiles from Menards -- maybe a buck apiece IIRC. No cracking. I sometimes have to reposition them a bit after going down the road, to make sure the holes on the side of the pan they sit on are fully exposed.

Our Pizza Stone lasted 2 years before it broke. We checked into a Steel Pizza Stone. We Love it!!! It will not break, just don't drop it on your foot. In the house we place it on the upper most shelf and crank the oven to 500 Degrees plus, 30-40 mins. for preheating. We place our Homemade Pizza in the oven and 7 mins. later we have the greatest pizza you will ever eat! It is as close as you will get to a Brick Oven Pizza. P.S. 1/4 Steel Plate will also work.

We use a different approach, a toaster oven. Works great, nothing to break, uses no LP in the process of heating, baking.

Can you make a normal meal, like the Tyson frozen chicken or a pizza in one? Never used a toaster oven.

Can I ask exactly where you place the air bake cookie sheet? On a rack or on the bottom of the oven?

We use the air bake pan as a normal baking sheet.
Instead of a pizza stone we have a square cast iron griddle that fits perfectly. It's dual use since we can grill with it and gives better heat distribution, especially with the airbake pan under the item being cooked.
We made a cake last trip and it came out well. Just took a bit longer than expected and we were slightly off level.
