Pop Up Roof Fly Off (Video)
Note to the pop up guys/gals...latch your roof before travel. That stinks for the camper and the guy that ran it over....Good air time though.

The guy that ran it over had to change his shorts and may have sustained vehicle damage. Hard to prepare for things like that while traveling.

That happened in the future according to the date stamp (11/16/2016). Someone tell him before he leaves the campsite to latch his roof on that morning!
Being the guy in that car that ran the roof over would have been fun...unless there was a soda or coffee in the center console!

And I just read an article today ( Road debris causing more traffic accidents), with AAA stating studies have shown that debris-related crashes have gone up by 40 percent since 2001. That was debris for sure.

Wow. I used to own a popup and did latch it, however I didn't do it as secure as I probably should have. Glad I never blew that step off.
Kudos to the driver that ran it over; he/she handled it well. That could have gone badly.

At first I was thinking to myself " I hope that isn't a white van pulling a green trimmed coleman" cuz 2 years ago I sold mine to an older couple and the latches were in bad shape ( the buyer was aware of it), THEN ! Luckily after watching the video from the beginning again I noticed it doesn't have a roof A/C, so unless they put a new roof on it, I doubt its the couple that bought mine.
I feel bad for everyone involved, pretty sure the seats in the car will need to be shampooed.

I got the sarcasm in your post (even though you didn't use sarcasm font). The bad thing is that stationary road debris is almost always the fault of the driver of the vehicle that hits it.
In this case it's clearly obvious that the General Lee was not at fault, however, give thme about 300 more feet of travel distance between the camper and the General Lee and then you gave a stationary object in the road that could be avoided.
For the road debris issues causing more and more accidents just remember guys and gals, maintain a high visual horizon when you drive. Don't stare at the car in front of you, look WAY beyond the car in front of you. Your peripheral vision will catch anything the car in front of you does. This way you can see what the cars or trucks 3-4 ahead are doing. If they are swerving to the left, that is a clue.
Of course most all of the RVers I see towing are driving very safe to begin with.
And for goodness sakes. Buy a diesel!

I have NO IDEA what a sarcasm font i s, and I was NOT being sarcastic, just relating the coincidence of reading an article regarding road debris being a problem and then reading this article!
And this statement, "The bad thing is that stationary road debris is almost always the fault of the driver of the vehicle that hits it." Makes NO sense to me. Stationary debris on the road is caused by a vehicle dropping it due to not securing their load correctly, of forgetting to latch a roof, etc. I cannot see how it is the fault of the vehicle that hits it!
I can see how a vehicle avoiding stationary debris can be at fault for causing an accident or maybe running it over, but how can they be responsible for the debris being on the road? Or are you being sarcastic and forgot the sarcasm font; whatever that might be.
And really, a diesel can prevent this? If that was sarcasm I failed to see a different font.
Have a great day....(now I wish I knew what a sarcasm font is)
I see from the post above, evidently the sarcasm font is also known is Italics.

I guess no one can argue that it takes too long to open up a pop-up anymore.

I'll make this easy. If the debris falls off of the vehicle in front of you, and the debris is still in motion, and you are driving behind it and hit it, it is not your fault.
If you are driving along and hit a separated tractor tire tread that has been in the traffic lane for 30 minutes and you destroy the front end of your car then it is your fault (full treads can weigh almost 100 lbs). You should have seen the obstruction and should have been driving in such a manner to avoid hitting it. Now, a tire tread separating is not an unsecured load.
Even if a load was unsecured, you cannot simply drive directly into a stationary object in the traffic lane and claim it's not your fault because that object, for whatever reason, should not have been there.
I hope one would not race head long into a downed tree because it's not supposed to be there. The point of my reply was to increase people's awareness driving safely with a little bit of humor injected in it. The diesel comment should be obvious humor.
I will robotically respond with no humor or sarcasm next time.

The driver of the car had nowhere to go to avoid the debris. The vehicle with the camera was passing on his left. The car driver took a hit and did not send the the camera vehicle into the median or launch into the ditch himself which would be a sure thing at speed.
I would submit that he used his mirrors and minimized the number of vehicles involved.
Having said that, I hope the car driver did that for those reasons. He sure did handle it well.

I'm pretty sure that this was not a part of my drivers education class. Man, do I feel cheated and unprepared for life. (No sarcasm font necessary, it's all sarcasm)
