power hook up

I want to hook up my fifth wheel to my truck the day before departure. I also want to run my refrigerator at the same time with ac power from the house.

Question: Can I have the Fifth wheel plugged into the ac power with refrigerator on and have the power plug from the fifth wheel to the truck power plugged in also?

If you plan on connecting into house for power, i dont think you need to leave truck connected to tt.

Why risk killing your truck battery overnight? Why not just use the converter to run the trailer until time to go. Some motorhomes electronically and safely connect chassis to coach batteries but are designed to do this, not sure your rig is equipped with the electronics needed to do this.

I am thinking the diodes in the alternator would prevent damage to the alternator, but why take the chance?

Ok, so hook up the truck to fw and leave plugged in to ac to run refrigerator but do not plug into truck until departure.

Evidently I've been lucky as I've done it for the last several years at home and on the road when we are just overnighting. Just park the truck, lower the jacks, plug in water, sewer and shore power. Never really thought it could be damaging anything. Dumb luck.

Like I said, I am sure there is "protection" that prevents back feeding the truck.

There is protection in the aircraft (squat switches) to prevent you from raising the landing gear when you are still on the ground if you should happen to lift the retract handle.

It also works 99.9999999999% of the time.

I just never gave it a thought and that's after having trailers since 1975. So, even old dogs can learn new tricks. Will start unplugging the truck from now on.

All the TVs that I've owned in the past several years have a relay to make the contact to the Charge line when the ignition is on.

When the truck is not running, my charge line on the truck at the trailer connector is dead, so no "feed back" per se into the truck.

That's true, but nothing in life is "for sure" except death & taxes.

Even unplugging the pigtail doesn't stop the ground thru the hitch.

Will not hurt truck at all, actually it will charge your truck battery while hooked up to shore power.
