Power stabilizing jacks

My recently purchased 2014 261BHXL has power stabilizing jacks. I have a few questions about them. First of all, how do I know when to stop lowering them? Meaning, how much pressure should they be put under? My son was lowering them and they system stops after a little bit, is that how tight they should me, or did he just overextend them? Secondly, the rear one is nice and quite, but the front one is... not so much. I've lubed the screw, but that didn't change the noise. Is there another point that I can lubricate, or do I just live with it until the motor dies? Thanks!

Joe

I have them on my EVO, not a fan of them but thats a different topic.

They are meant to stabilize and not lift. So when I run mine out I snug them to the ground while not actually lifting my TT. You will hear the motor make a different pitch noise while they are snugging to the ground.

As for the noise, mine are noisy and lubing didnt help much. I just listen to the noise and am glad you only have to do it twice, one for setting up and once for tearing down.

Interesting, I have not heard this but Im not very knowledgeable on them other than they are on my TT, I know how to put them up and down and that they really dont do much for stabilizing.

I hate them anyway so I might just try that and see what happens.

The set I modified for Bob Caldwell, I completely disassembled the gear case. When I removed the gear on the motor shaft the motor was totally silent. Put the 1st gear back on and it was noisy again. I just packed the entire gear case with Red N Tacky grease. It did quiet it down somewhat, but was still a little noisy.

BTW, I also reinforced the legs and they will definitely stabilize the trailer. I really think with my rear jacks and axle stab jacks with the reinforced legs in conjunction with the landing jacks, I could lift the wheels off the ground. I won't, but they are that strong now.

I agree, they don't seem to stabilize a damn thing, In theory they are nice, in practice, not so much....

Take them off and have a welding shop add reinforcement.

Did that actually eliminate the side to side sway?

I dont know if re-enforcing them does, if it does I will do it, but my 4 pyramid jacks and bal x choks 100 percent eliminate all movement.

Speaking of x-chocks...

I have a pair that were given to me by a friend. They do not fit my car trailer, the tires are too far apart. I figured I'd be able to use them on the tt, but same deal, the tires are too far apart... what am I missing? I have them set at their widest setting but they don't make contact with both tires. Are there different sizes?

yes there are a couple different sizes for the x chocks, there is the standard size and the extended size, if you google or look on amazon you will see the 2 sizes

I have found out that with the reinforced legs that the closer to vertical you can get the legs, the better. Putting blocks under them will keep them more at an angle and thus allowing more side to side motion. The jacks themselves are designed to slide from side to side. Look under your trailer with the jacks partially retracted, you can slide them from side to side.

I have power jacks and did not like the movement of the trailer. I added 2 X-chocks and the steady fast system and now the trailer is rock solid. I only put the Jacks down until I see the trailer rise a little.

I bought a pair of standard x-chocks for my 310BHDS. The first time I tried them I discovered my wheels were too far apart. A bit later I got to talking to our neighbors and mentioned these chocks and he bought them off me right on the spot. I have since ordered the extended versions and will give them go this weekend.

I don't really think you want to hear a pop. That usually isn't a good sound.

Just snug them up until the motor starts straining then let go of the button.

I ran mine down and never heard a pop. I hate the electric stabilizers so I just kept running them down and no pop ever. It started to lift up the back of my TT a good 3 inches. Maybe some pop and some don't, not sure.

I'll just stick to my X chocks and pyramid jacks. Steady as a rock with those.

The ones that came on my trailer are sitting in the junk pile behind the garage- free to a good ( or any for that matter) home. Pure junk!!! No competent electrical engineer would EVER design a system that allowed an electric motor to be put in a situation where it encounters enough resistance that it stalls. A competent engineer would install limit switches or torque switches or any number of other devices that would prevent a "frozen rotor" event. When the jacks are retracted (or extended for that matter) and hit a hard stop- the motor current sky rockets. With any kind of luck the fuses will blow before the motor burns up but luck is a funny critter that way. Trash um at the first opportunity.
