Try putting blue locktite on the threaded rod and screw it back in. After it cures it won't back out.

Red is stronger than blue and for that large of a threaded rod, if you needed to remove it, red wouldn't be too hard to loosen.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
The things that come to those that wait will be the scraggly crappy junk left by those that got there first.

Thanks everybody for all of the constructive responses. I honestly felt kind of silly posting this, but now that I've read some of the responses, I'm glad to see I'm not they only one with this issue, and that others may have benefited from the post. And likewise, I appreciate some of the replies, such as reinspecting the tanks. I thought they were in good shape, but now I see that one is pretty severely dented up. I'll replace them in the spring, but MAN was I surprised at how much a 40lb tank goes for!

Are you sure those are 40’s? I would bet they are 30’s and those are 1/2 the cost of 40’s. You can get 30’s for around $50

I'll have to check again. Now if only I could pump the gas from the old tank to the new

The LP store can probably do it, but if your old ones are less than half full it probably isn't worth the cost.

If they are still holding pressure and you just don't want them on the trailer, connect them to you gas grill at home (or give to a friend - with the understanding you want the empty tanks back).

Sorry if it is bad form to bump your own thread, but I wanted everybody to be sure that their propane tanks are secured...
