Pre-wired Question

I'm looking at purchasing a new Salem travel trailer. It says pre-wired for backup camera. Is that just power or something else?

Should be video and dc wiring to power the camera

Mine was just power and mount for a Furrion camera, video is wireless.

If it included video then you would still need to add the video cable and connector from the hitch to the dash

Seems to me the backup camera would have to be powered by the tow vehicle's alternator directly to the dash video (if any). I had bought a 2009 Salem TT and would have thought a backup camera was useless then, particularly since my tow vehicle had no video capability. And my DW was very effective in helping me back up when necessary. I typically camped in cgs that were mostly pull through.

Usually just a power wire (fed by the running lights so they have to be on) and a housing for the camera.
The Furrion cameras are wireless as afar as the video.

Basically, the "prewired for camera" is saving you about 7 minutes work.

Are you sure it says it's for a backup camera and not a rear observation camera? A backup camera usually is located near the license plate on the rear bumper. An observation camera is pre-wired and located near the top on the back of your RV. The rear camera is powered up when you hook up your trailer to the truck with the existing pig-tail. The monitor, which goes in the cab, is wireless. (Power comes from the 12V cigarette lighter receptacle.) The camera has a little antenna on it. The lights have to be in the "on" position to power up the monitor. Not "auto" or "running lights".

That is not correct. No video signal. It is a wireless system.

It's rear observation camera while driving and a back up camera when backing the trailer into your site. The one I had on my last travel trailer was wireless and was powered by the trailer running lights. The salesman said today it is powered by the 12 system of the TT and the lights do not have to be on. Either way, I drive with the lights on so the TT running lights will be on. Yes, the camera is wireless.

Pre wired Furrion systems are usually a constant power feed with your marker lights turned on. However, I have read of some that were wired into the reverse light circuit only - double check which you have. If you are constant power, get the Observation camera (has 48 in the model number) not the Back-up camera (has 12 in the model number) as its a much better unit.
