problem registering new/old air conditioner?

We just had a domtec 13500 air conditioner installed last week, at our rv dealer.
We went to register this "new" air conditioner, and domtec refused to register it because it was three years old according to them. I am going to call the rv dealer tomorrow, but I am wondering what to ask for. Is it a problem if the unit is new , but manufactured three years ago? (I am guessing it sat on a shelf at the rv dealer) Should we ask for a different one?
Just wondering if anyone has encountered an issue like this before.

It is odd that the dealer had a unit in stock for three years, normally if you need a new unit the dealer will order it. Most people do not send in the registration card and if the dealer had this in stock and could not send it back then this may be why Dometic will not accept it.
I suggest that when you talk to your dealer let them know what Dometic said and then ask the dealer what they are going to do for you. If you like what they offer get it in writing and that's if you can trust the dealer to stand behind what they say, on the other hand have them order one from the manufacture. I had my a/c unit changed two years ago from a Dometic 13,500 BTU to a Carrier 15,000 BTU, and it was ordered....Good luck and keep us up dated..... One other thing you might want to is to record the Serial number of the unit you now have just to ensure they change it out if you stay with the same manufacture. A model is a model, the numbers are the same but the Serial number Identifies your unit.
