propane generator

Hello,

I have an opportunity to buy a 4000w onan propane (use). For the same price, I also have a Hyundai inverter 3000w. I hesitate between the two. This is for my fifth wheel with the option generator prep. What do you recommend?

FYI you probably won't get 4KW out of the Onan on propane. You might want to check what the propane KW rating is if that's an important consideration to you.

A 4K propane generator will burn about 3/4 gallon of propane an hour at half load. A 30lb tank holds about 6.5 gallons. So about 8-10 hours at half load for a 30ib tank. Not too $$ efficient.
My Honda 2000i will run the same amount of time on 1-2 gallons of gas.

We had a Onan 5500 propane generator in both our last 5th wheels and we won't do it again. It is much easier and affordable to buy and maintain a portable gas powered generator. It sure is more convenient to just flip the switch and the ac comes on but considering the cost, weight and inconvenience of getting propane, no.

I agree!!

Propane is cheap, but the hassle of hauling extra 30lb propane around ... then taking them to refill CHEAP... I am sure the RV parks have it... at $3 or $4 a gallon...
So much easier running to the local gas station and getting gas!
