Propane refills on Sunday

I am asking for advice and experiences from the members. I am trying to put together a list (and links) of places that our members can possibly get their propane tanks refilled (not exchanged) on Sundays...or just on the road any day. It is a huge pain to run out of propane in an unfamiliar area, then try to find a place to refill it.

Once this information is gleaned, we may put it in the library for everyone to access should the need arise while they are traveling/camping. I'm trying to keep the list constrained to national retailers.

This is what I have so far:

U-haul (some locations)
U-Haul: Propane Refill Stations

Tractor Supply (some locations)
Propane Tank Refills at Tractor Supply Co.

Ace Hardware (certain locations)
Ace Hardware Store Locator | Click Here To Find Your Local Ace Hardware Store and Services

Pilot/Flying J Travel Center (limited locations)
http://www.pilotflyingj.com/fuel-prices?filters=
http://pilotflyingj.com/assets/files...ravelGuide.pdf

Love's Travel Centers
https://www.loves.com/en/location-and-fuel-price-search

I have read that maybe certain locations of Costco and BJ Wholesale (are members only though) also refill propane but have no actual experience or clubs in my area to confirm this. Has anyone seen or done this at one of their clubs?

I want to thank everyone in advance for their help and suggestions.

I am assuming that the locations that have propane (for propane vehicles) also refill the cylinders, as that did match the pdf file and fuel price link for Louisiana at least. I put both links above for Flying J to make sure.

Keep em coming.

At Costco (Canada) you need to pay inside, not where the fill tank is. Entry is by member card so yes you need to be a member. The propane is much cheaper than on the road so I fill up at the beginning of the season.

Add you get a Good Sam discount on fuel and propane with your member card!

BJs offering fuel do have propane but it's flat fee fills only.

Many TA and Petro travel centers have propane filling - check the TA website for specifics on a location.

Many ACE Hardware stores do as well (only place in TX where I could get on Sunday and by the measure).

I have a bracket in the bed of the truck and carry a full tank in it. This way we are not slaves to finding a refill station.

In Phoenix the Shell station on Cave Creek Road just north of Bell Rd sells it for $2.59 / gallon. The U Haul on 32nd sells it for $3.59/

I have used the propane refill service at Costco and confirm it does operate - quite inexpensive too. But, as you have indicated, you do need to be a Costco member.

Also worthy of note, they don't seem to have a clear policy on how to do this. The Costco in Calgary charges me a fixed price for a tank refill. I pay up front for the size tank I need filling and then take the receipt out to the pump where the attendant fills it. If he cannot get in as much as I have paid for then I'm out of pocket. While the Costco at Kalispell, MT. filled the tank, gave me a receipt for the amount pumped to take into the warehouse and pay before returning to pick up my tank.

If one is really desperate, an exchange from HD or Lowes works well. Wally World if one is REALLY desperate. Most CGs do refills, some at less $$ than ACE. TSC is pretty good on $$ as well. CW of course, most days of the week and 25% off on Tue/Wed.

Handy!

You can pick this up hardcopy at any of their locations too.

http://pilotflyingj.com/assets/files...ravelGuide.pdf

Finally found this too while digging through my smartphone bookmarks and it only gives filling stations, no bottle exchanges:

http://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/propane_locations.html

Drill through the specific location information and you'll get hours.

Speaking of smartphones, if your in an area where you can use Google Maps, just do a search for "propane". Sometimes you'll get the hours with the search results, but always a phone number.

Many private camp grounds operate propane refilling stations. Also check marinas and hardware (in addition to Ace which I see you did list). Some grocery stores have 20# tanks pre-filled and run a tank exchange service. During camping season, many RV dealers are open for business, and most refill propane.

I was just at a Love's Travel Center about 60 miles from my house, and I spotted a brand new propane bulk refill station near the RV dump station.

Just another place to keep in mind while traveling or need something after hours and/or on Sunday.

What I didn't get in the pic, is there is a box just to the right, which you press or call inside the store for propane service.

Costco (member only). Bring tank(s) to the fill station, push the call button & an attendant will come out and fill your tank(s). He'll give you a receipt with the amount filled and you go inside and pay. Bring him the receipt to claim your tank(s). A bit of a pain waiting for an attendant then having to go into the store to pay but, worth it at $1.69/gal this past January in Myrtle Beach.

Who Recertifies Ten Year Old Tanks

Not to change the subject of the thread very much, but I have been 'turned down' for a 'refill' once because....It now seems to be the law that tanks that are refilled need to be re certified every ten years. Do you know of a list of propane tank certification places?
Has any one been 'turned down' on refilling a tank before?
Thank-you

Not a new law. Need to be re-certified 12 years from date of manufacture I believe. Have heard it is as cheap just to purchase a new one. Lowes sells them for 29.99.
