Pull through or Back in?

Just curious as I sit here in a very nice RV Resort and look around. I know that they charge $5 more per night for a pull through site and it looks as though everyone here with the exception of me has chosen to spend their time in a pull though site.

Now, it's not that I'm cheap, the back in sites have a better view and tree coverage. Where as the pull though sites are open pull though drives.

It got me wondering how many RVers choose to pay extra for the option of not backing in to a space?

Depends on the site, if the nicer site is back in then go for it. And, it's good to be proficient at backing up in tight spaces for the times when you have to.

I am a back in guy, I like the edges of the camp grounds with more nature and space for the kids. Mostly I ask for the quieter area.
I don’t think I have ever heard of more money for the pull throughs. Maybe they are more likely to be 50amp.

If I am staying at a camp in route overnight I usually pull through - especially if I can stay hooked up.

If I am at the destination, it Depends as well. There is a RV camp in the Smokies where all the premium "Pull through" put the curbside of your RV next to a Picnic deck on the banks of a river - THAT is worth the extra $$

In P-Cola, at NAS Oak Grove, the back in sites abut the beach - nice to have the bay view out of our...welll Bay window in the 5er

(Govt installation so no extra charge for cool view though)

Bottom line: you really really need to learn how to back your unit because SOMEDAY you will have to and better you are experienced that sitting there in terror as a first timer in a real world situation

With our large rear window on our 5'ver we ALWAYS prefer back in sites facing a woody area or lake, beach, etc...

We didn't mind pull through sites when we had a TT due to the lack of viewing options from inside the camper vs the multi window setup of our 5'ver.

We have been at a CG in BC Canada were the sites overlook the water. All the sites were back in except for 4 or 5 that were drive in (most MH have a large front picture window). The drive in sites had the hookups on the opposite side.

There is no specific answer, as it depends on other factors such as 30 or 50 amp, water/sewer availability, view, and lot size.

I usually prefer a back-in site unless it backs up to something undesirable, such as a busy business location. Most back-in sites have a nice view, nobody behind you, and are usually quieter. A pull-thru site is okay too, it really depends on the RV park.

This all rings true for me.

Cornelius also mentioned the power options- I may opt for a lessor site if it has 50amp service and it's in the dog days of summer.

We'll do either. The first time out I did a pull thru, just because I wanted to reduce the already high level of stress, but after that weekend I was doing back-ins. We'll still book some pull thru's, usually if we wanted facing sites when travelling with another family. I haven't seen any facing sites yet that are back-ins.

We did get burned with a pull thru at one location. Pull thru was more money, so we assumed it was a premium, full hookup site. Turns out when we got there that the pull thru's didn't have sewer. The lower cost sites were the ones with sewer. Go figure.

I was in Pensacola NAS in Jan this year the beach sites I think 6 are $5.00 more per night then the rest they are now calling them premier sites. I stayed in site 48 and as you know it's still a back in site. Also now there is a 2 week limit on them.

LOL My first time was a disaster... DW went and reserved the spot(busy weekend) and took what they had. MMMM this would have been hard for the best driver with much experience, slider hitch, 2DR truck, 25ft. or less trailer, calm/cool demeanor... anyway I had a croud watching, second time to pull 5er(home then to lake), nervous DW, kids/dog scaring me. It was not good and i got a dented cab. I NOW LOVE PULL THROUGHS

It makes no difference to me, if I'm on the road and don't have to unhook, either works just fine. Otherwise, if I'm setting up for a week or 2, I prefer the back in sites, but won't pay more for it.

If we are traveling and just stopping for the night we will do a pull thru and stay hooked up and hit the road early. If stay for more than a day as many have said it is really up to how pretty the site is. Stephen Foster State Park in northern FL has pull thru's that are curved so you are surrounded by woods. Alafia River State Park in near Tampa has pull thru's that face tall grass and are far a part from neighboring sites. For most of our camping, sites have been back in for as stated more privacy and better view.

I personally take the back in sites. For two reasons:

A) I can back a trailer up with no drama.

B) some people can't

I feel like I'm taking up a handicap parking spot when I take up a pull-thru space.

It depends, I find that the pull thru sites are usally bigger. But I too can back up just as easy. When I go to my local KOA, I always get a pull thru just for the reason that they are bigger and are located were we like to be..

I prefer the back in for longer term, that way I don't have traffic on both sides of the unit (bikes, cars, golf carts, people etc). Back in always seemed more cozy and private to me. If overnighting and don't want to unhook, pull through.

I'm thinking that the type of RV is also going to be a factor on pull thru or not. When we had the Flagstaff 8528 IWKS with the rear living, backing in was the way. Now, with the Cedar Creek 38FL (Front Living), it doesn't really matter, but my preference would be pull thru.

Like a long pull thru for quick stops. Stay hooked up and hit the road. Otherwise it doesn't matter.
