Question about Slide Outs Seals

Hi all, up on a ladder today cleaning the slide out roof. I noticed the seal was not uniformly sitting (second pic) on the roof, as it is in the first pic. Seemed to be curling under. Should I be reaching under and pulling out? New to all of this. I really appreciate your help!

Looks like this seal is sitting the way it should be: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5y...ew?usp=sharing

This one appears to be curling under:

I did buy this spray for the seals, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet:
https://www.amazon.com/Thetford-Prem.../dp/B000NJ6EZ8

Also wondering about a spray for the moving parts of the slide out, the gears and track underneath. Suggestions...?

As always, thanks!
Joe

Not really a seal but a wiper helps clean off roof when bringing in. I pull mine out from time to time.

okay, I see. So when I get up there with the spray for the seals. Would I spray these? That's all I am seeing on the outside up by the roof.

Thanks,
Joe

Yes. I would spray seal protectant and wipe off with cloth rag. Try to get underneath and interior side of this too. For the slide out track and moving parts you want to make sure you use a product designated for slide outs (not wd-40) so road grime and dirt don't stick to area.

I sprayed mine one time and a year later had to replace the D Channel the top one. May have used the wrong spray tho. From now on will just wash.

Don't get it too slick or it will not flip over. I keep a yard stick handy to correct mine.

Fixed seal problem

I had the same thing happening on my slide out. To remedy I put a bead of roofing sealant (self leveling) about halfway. About 4 inches every foot or so. The hump on the beads helps to both fold the seal in and pull it out. So far it has worked every time.

Try & keep the roof clean, you may have dirt etc getting caught on the wipe. Reach behind the wipe & make sure the area is clean

That is a very good tip and I will most definitely use that this season...At present I get the ladder out and take my awning rod with hook and pull out any seam now fully extended..a PITA!!!!! Side seals can be reached from ground.....

Slide Out Seal

I had the same problem with my slides on a motorhome and the factory rep for the manufacture recommended that I don't use any lub on the wiper seal. (Which is what you indicate in the photos). Causes dirt and out debris to accumulate in the area. He recommended using Baby Power, it will not attract dirt and it helps the seals stay in place. I do like the idea of using a small amount of silicone, as long as it does not cause wear of the seal.

We have used baby powder on the inside seals and it works great. On the outside we use Protectal Rubber seal. Make sure the seals are clean and apply the product to both sides of them. The problem with slide toppers is that its hard to get to them under the topper but the spray goes a fair distance and that seems to work.

I use baby powder as well and apply with a microfiber towel directly to the slide out seals both inside and out and have had good result,s no problems.

Baby Powder

X2 on the baby powder. Easy and inexpensive and no residue to deal with
