The biggest element of age and wear is probably the sun. It fades and dries plastic to brittle failure. It fades paint and exterior graphics not to mention the interior coloring of fabrics and flooring. Its best to cover but if you do you must be careful about projections on slides, corners etc. The prevent of flapping damage to paint and cover is to strap it down securely. The straps the makers provide are of little use by themselves. You can add some thin 1" or 1/1/2" wide belting maybe three times around the girth. Since its in you back yard you can watch it and add more if necessary. Typical cover come off over a foot in the winds and smash back, lots of damage. If you strap it right, no sun and no whip damage.
