Really?
I saw this pull into the site next to mine.
I'm amazed. Either that VW is alot tougher than I give it credit for or this a disaster in the making. I'm not sure which

I had to look it up. That's a Volkswagen Touareg rated at 7700 lbs "properly equipped". More than I would have thought...probably pushing the limits though. Has about 1300 lb payload, turbo six w/ 400 ish lbs. or torque.

I'm sure he can pull it, I would be worried about stopping it. The guy has some nads

Stopping it is easy. I could stop it with a bicycle if it had a brake controller. I've got a similar trailer and the electric brakes work awesome.

Stopping can be a real problem when your tow vehicle is not heavy enough to counter act and sway by uneven braking of the trailer JMHO

I don't care how much power it has. It's too light and too short for my liking. He won't like it either after he makes his first panic maneuver.

Short for that trailer, yes....but I was also surprised that it weighs over 5500 lbs. I would have guessed around 4200.

I towed a 27 foot camper with my 2007 diesel Grand Cherokee for 3 years without any problems. I wish I had a Toureg especially the 10 cylinder diesel!
I had 7200 lbs of tow capacity with my diesel GC and my camper weight about 5500-6000 lbs wet and ready to go.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should..... I have had not enough TV for the tt and got pushed down a 7% grade. Never again. And that was an armada towing a 7300 lb loaded weight 30 ft TT. It wasn't just the mountain issue either. White knuckle handling when cars of any size pass you, holding on for dear life at 55 mph, praying you don't have a truck pass you, tail wagging the dog, these are all symptoms I had. No thanks. Switched to f250 with that tt. Rock solid. Barely needed brakes on the same mountain pass. Something that small towing a giant sail is not a good idea..... I wonder what frontal surface area it is rated to tow? Also, allot for the weight of occupants and I'll bet it's over on payload. Hope it has a Hensley arrow hitch.

Ok so I get it, we all love our big trucks and our debating every weight issue known to man kind BUT that does not make everyone who doesn't have a truck a blooming idiot!
I have observed MANY people towing with big trucks that have NO business towing anything. I have also observed big trailers being towed with smaller PROPERLY equipped vehicles that were perfectly safe.
Let's not be so quick to judge this setup as unsafe. One of our own here on the board had a very similar setup and towed MANY miles. Don't fool yourself, just because we have big trucks does not make our setups safer!

I always love how people bring up braking, have any of you looked at the 60 to 0 braking distance of an hd truck?

It's hard to tell from the photo but he also has a WDH that is clearly not adjusted properly. He needs to tighten the chains.

I have had many discussions with the dealer in London that supplies cars as TV. Like many I did tow my fifth wheel with the F 150 overloaded. I didn't die and didn't crash but like many have mentioned white knuckle experiences at times.
The explanation given by the dealer is the same equipped car in Europe has ratings to tow what they hook up to them, in this case the Tourag. We do the same thing comparing F250 vs a F350 only having minor differences like 4 inch blocks.
I saw a Honda Minivan towing a triple axle 9,000 lb Airstream. Could barely make it up the hill near my house.
