rear trailer clearance question

I got my Rockwood 2702ss on wedensday. we had some trouble getting it in the driveway as the slope although not to steep , steep enough.

The question I have is if I add casters or rear wheels how well that help, won't they just get squished? Or do they just hit push up and roll?

we were using some boards the trailer fell off and bent one of the jacks all to heck, we then took both rear jacks off, used only one board and it went right in the spot.

Any thoughts on this?

I installed two 4" swivel castors to the bottom of the I-beam on our 5er at the rear, but I also moved the jacks forward a few inches. The trick is to run a string from the bottom of the rear tire to the bottom of your castor and the string will determine where your jacks should be installed on the frame. You don't want the jacks in the up postion to hang below that string.

Believe me, I have dragged that rear end a few times and haven't yet destroyed any of the castors. Get the heavy duty castors with the ball bearings and the castors themselves are green in color.

threegr8katz, have you tried backing into the driveway with the bars of your WDH removed ?? That might lift the back of your trailer enough that maybe it wouldn't drag.....along with some strategically placed boards in the gutter.

My trailer has skid plates on it....like a big V. I have dragged those before coming out of a service station, but the jacks survived. If you have the skip plates, but the jacks drag 1st, then there is a design flaw. I would see if the dealer would help you out with that.

If you don't have the skid plates, then you definitely need something back there.

To other 2702ss owners......did your units come with some type of skid plates ?? Sounds like a factory oversight to me.

I think I'm the only other one here with a 2702SS so if u tell me what a skid plate looks like I'll check.

It will be piece of thick, flat metal shaped into a V mounted to the frame on both sides near the rear bumper.

I live at the bottom of a hill and had the same problem when backing into my driveway. The first time I tried, my skid plates dragged hard enough that they left scratches in the concrete. I found that disconnecting the WDH bars before backing in, and waiting until after pulling out reinstall, gave me just enough clearance that nothing scraped.
