Didn't mean anyone was a sales person did not mean to offend you or anyone else just quoted what OP asked about ."Recommendations for a cheap dorm vacuum" To some people Dysons are cheap to others they are quite pricie. I have no dog in this fight, but to me the shark is cheap and works great if not as good as a dyson that's all. Remember it's a small dorm room.....

They are no means cheap, but well worth the money. We tried several different things before buying this and could have saved money if we had purchased this first. Since my wife doesn't read this site I can say this, I should have listened to her to begin with....she was right about Dyson

Gotta remember though, he's asking about a dorm room. They're maybe 100 sq feet tops of floor space. If he was buying for himself, sure go with a dyson, if he's buying for a daughter moving out to her first apartment, sure go with a dyson. But for something to vacuum 5' x 20' of walkway for the next 3 years it might be overkill.

If a cheap one only lasts 3 years well college is only supposed to last 3 years.

We "toured" a HUGE Jayco 5er at the park where we stayed in Pigeon Forge. She proudly showed us the Dyson Stick they got....ahem...."free" with the RV. For what they paid for that 5er I'm thinking someone should have thrown in a "free" F350 TV!

That RV was gorgeous, and they were happy....that's what counts.

The Shark Rocket is super small and as good as the Dyson. The cord reaches all the camper areas and the top releases the dirt right into your trash. It has settings for carpets and floors. I am really happy with it and the price.

As were the Electrolux's , We still have one we bought in1962 and it is great.
If you go with the Dyson, she just might keep it after she graduates and sets up housekeeping on her own.

I recommend the Shark Rocket, I bought it for my camper this summer. It works perfect and takes up very little space. We stayed where the soil was very sandy and I had 3 dogs, and 3 kids for 4 nights. It picked up the sand and the dog hair. It is a little pricey but will last a long time compared to the cheap ones you have to keep replacing!!
