Recommend PRIVATE parks, TX Hill Country

Hi all,

We've camped several times at Inks Lake State park, and have a trip planned to Blanco on Mar. 4th. We've also day-tripped to check out a few of the State Parks that we can drive to easily.

However, I thought it might be fun to solicit your recommendations on the best

PRIVATE

parks in the area.

Please educate us on your favorites, and why you like them.

(Within 1-day drive of Cedar Park, is what we're looking for)

I'm not sure exactly where all you're considering the TX Hill Country but one of our favorite places anywhere is Buckhorn Lake RV Resort. It's in Kerrville.

Not sure why the forum made that word Private read, underlined, and capitalized. I didn't write it that way...

Canyon of the Eagles on the northeast side of Lake Buchanan. Beautiful place, miles of trails, and an observatory on-site

We had planned on staying at Canyon of the Eagles but at that time access to the lake was not that great seeing as how the lake was many many many feet low and we kayak. We just stayed at Inks Lake State Park. It worked fine for us but the Canyon of the Eagles looked very promising other than the lake level issue. Loved Inks Lake by the way. Right on the water, pretty crowded place though. Devils Waterhole was cool.

We have day camped at Inks many times and while the lake itself is beautiful the crowds are not. Buchanan is way, way up now, within 10 or so feet of full, do the kayaking should be fine. We are going there for our first trip of the spring in a couple of weeks. I can give you a report then if you like. FYI, we have a place just northeast of Burnet so we're practically neighbors.

We have stayed at Inks Lake one time during the winter. One of the camp host told me it was the 2nd busiest state park in the state. I was told the busiest is Cedar Hill state park near Dallas. Have not tried any private parks yet maybe someday.

So do we. We stayed at East Llano River SP in early November and will be at Guadalupe River SP Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Hey if there happens to be a moderator reading this...

I started two threads. One for TX Private parks and one for TX State parks. Maybe at this point they should be merged?

Thanks,
