We purchased a Garmin 760 RV LMT GPS with the 7" screen last year and have used it from Ontario to Texas to Florida and along the east coast. I key in my RV height, length and width, tell the GPS that I am an RV and it routes me along RV friendly roads. It also has lifetime map and traffic updates. I had thought about the Rand McNally and when I compared the two, I went with Garmin even-though it is a bit more expensive. There is a similar Garmin for truckers but I found it not totally applicable to RVs.

IExit is a-pretty close app to Next Exit book and is a app for IPhone. Does not give rv friendly fuel stops that The Next Exit does. Also use Gas Buddy to plan fuel stops when planning trips. Use the zip code search to work with Gas Buddy.

My daughter drives an HDT with horse trailers attached all over the country. She recommends truckerpath.com which has trip planning for fuel stops and bridge heights, which I use regularly.

Because the Rand MCNALLY GPS units for RV's offers POI and things to see and do in each state. You can also plan your route by entering in your way points along the way. The Rand McNally Trip Planner also offers locations on stations that dispense fuel, places to eat, hospitals, police stations, travel centers, and so forth. These are all items that I have used when planning my trips.
This applies only to the Rand McNally GPS Trip MAKER 7710.
In the road atlas information portion: This provides information of vehicle restrictions on RV's for each state. In this site are the non-emergency phone numbers for each state to ascertain RV requirements when towing in that state.
In the POI Category: campgrounds are listed both private and state/federal. Than there is road side attractions, amusement parks, Festivals, History & Heritage sites and Arts & music to name just a few.
GPS have come a long way from when they where first introduced.

Thanks, Jim. I legit never considered sitting down with my GPS to plan out a trip.
I'm also a bit biased- we actually own the Garmin RV version of the GPS and it hasn't been out at all. My wife navigates with a combination of Google Maps, AllStays, Google searches, and various other apps. I actually should just sell the thing.

Thanks for the coupon tip! I've been so dependent on GPS lately that I haven't had an atlas for quite a while. I like seeing the overall route at a glance, and sometimes the GPS makes that a little difficult. Time to order.

Just a heads up. Searched a couple other places to buy the 2016 deluxe motor carrier atlas and found some that were $10 cheaper, but by the time you added their shipping of almost $20, it was still cheaper using the coupon code and ordering from RM.

Just ordered a copy. With the discount and shipping it comes to $42 but if you want to spend a few less $$, it can be had in paperback on Amazon for $15. However, the laminated version on Amazon is $54.

Get a good GPS that you can add your trailer height and length, like the. Garmin 760 or something like that with a truckers map also
