In addition to when you stop for TV go-juice, there are a few tunnels and such that you should shut down the propane before entering. Just keep an eye open for the signs. To change a phrase from another of my hobbies, relax, don't worry, and drive on.

If you have a 12v option you can always switch to that in lieu of propane if you are not comfortable driving with the propane on.

Mine's been on auto since April including a 4750-mile trip and many fill-ups without a problem. If you turn the thing off you're likely to never get it cool since they take so long to cool down.

It is designed to run on propane while driving. 10 weeks on Alaska trip, 5 weeks coming home from winter in Texas, all sorts of shorter trips....it ran great on gas and switching back and forth to electric. Keep your food and family safe, run the lp.

Here's trailer Trailer Life's expert's take on the subject. First part of the video is about leveling the fridge, the last part is about driving with the propane on.

I was driving with one tank open when we we hit by 18 wheeler from side. The tt landed on its side and both tanks came off. The flow valve shut the one tank down. EMS personnel checked tanks and cut battery lose and move all three away from unit. Beside the safety built into tanks, EMS look for these things as well if there is a problem.

I have one of these:

You can order them from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/stor...rts/1040496481

Great during camping, and it will read out in the truck going down the road, too. If you are leery of running the propane, you can at least monitor the temps between campsites.

With our Roo 19, we could go about 4 hrs before the fridge got too warm for the DW's preference. Our Mini lite's fridge seems bigger, so we've gone to running the propane,

When you say turn the propane off while fueling, do you mean just turn the refrig off, or the propane itself?

Refer off. Otherwise it will continue to try and light using the spark method.

Original poster is back; sorry, when I'm working I can't access internet too often. Thanks for all the input; we used to travel with propane on, but heard too many say it wasn't safe, so we stopped. Guess we'll go with it for this trip.

Using my highly scientific polling system (i.e., reading this forum for the last 4 yrs), I'd guess traveling with propane on is about half of us.

From what I've read, just turning the fridge off shuts down the open flame behind the exterior fridge panel and greatly reduces the risk of ignition of gasoline fumes.

Obviously there are a lot of opinions on this. I started running with the tank valves closed when I broke a suspension spring on my fifth wheel, and somehow a propane line running in the wheel well got snagged in the tire and snapped off. It was on the passenger side, so I didn't see it happen. A passing driver flagged me down and I pulled to the shoulder. The check valve did prevent propane from spewing out, but since then I drive with the tank valves closed. Better safe than sorry, and we've never had the temp in the fridge increase more than a few degrees on our 300 mile daily drives.
