Pennsylvania state parks have just switched to RA this year. We have sites booked, but my wife booked them, I'll have her watch the CC for extra charges. The Army Corps campground we usually go to can be booked through either RA or Recreation.gov. I've always used recreation.gov. Thanks for the heads up.

I use reserveamerica.com to reserve all State Parks in New York State, where we live. No matter what the total, you will have a $9 fee. We have a state park right near our house which we camp at all the time. Even we we arrive in person to get a campsite for a few days - they charge us about a $2 fee!! It is their POUND OF FLESH!

I use RA a lot here in SoCal without any problems or extra charges. I also just hit the "No Thanks" button to bypass it. Just made an reservation with RA last night.

Hi guy's, I camp in sc, nc, ga and fl . every time I have made a reservation for any of these campgrounds, the "active ".com has shown up a
S the last paragraph before Check out. You have to be aware of the tiny check box at the very bottom that says "no thanks " . I have contacted both my state "sc,"dept of natural resources and was told that they did not have the resources to setup a reservation system. They pay reserve America to handle this. Now get this, I called reserve America to complain and was told that active.com as well as the magazine offers were part of there revenue stream. You can't even call the campground directly to make advance reservations. What a shame. My dw and I have 14 reservations in 3 state park campground this year

Same way for Ky State Parks. RA has that wording on the last page for magazine promotions. Check the box to opt out. It is sneaky way to earn fee income.

We too use Recreation.gov for camping reservations, no charge, but camping so far has only been in Arkansas and Oklahoma. That will change this season :-) There is a $10.00 cancellation/change of date fee, but no charge for making the reservation. I think we'll pass on RA, and use the fee for an extra day of camping.

There is no way around the fee, they will charge you the 'processing fee' even if you just show up without a reservation

I think that the recreation. Gov only applies to federal campgrounds & parks. State campgrounds are reserve America now in the south
