Ok guys...cross "camping in Canada' off your lists.

We can fill our tank for $40 less in the US.

It's still way too much, but $40/tank is a HUGE difference.

2 months ago I had the same dilemma. The price of gas cured me of that problem! $1.30/litre just isn't in my budget for that length of trip. I'll try again next year. We're doing a 500km run then staying in a corridor meandering our way home over a 5 week time slot. We'll see how it goes.

All the reservations are made and paid for so now it's just the gas that I have to budget for which won't be an issue, just have to stop drinking Tim Horton's coffee!! I travel a lot anyway so....(25000 kms since August last year!)

Happy pumping people!!!

I own vacation rentals here in the Smokies and camping while fun and loaded with intrinsic values of being in a national or state park, it always offered a cheap getaway. We usually camp in SPs when we head to Fla and when we go to Keys. I gotta say we get around 9 mpg towing the Roo. It took 8 tanks of gas in the 4 Runner to go to Fla and back this last trip.

If fuel continues to rise, we will forego camping in the Keys and find a vacation rental there. When we go to the Keys we tow the boat too, so my fuel traveling costs are doubled on these trips. Right now it costs about the same to travel down there towing a camper staying in a campground as it would for a 3 bedroom house rented for a week.

I will say increasing fuel costs will change a lot of families' vacation plans...

We live in North Georgia...There are MANY great state parks campground within a fifty mile radius of us...not to mention all of the Army Corps campgrounds near Lake Allatoona, Lake Lainer, and Carter's Lake. And if you are over 65 years old and have an inter-agency pass... Army Corps campgrounds are half price!

Us too, spending more time locally this year and see what happens for next year. I wish I could find away for my company to pay the fuel, HUM, Maybe I need to do some sales calls near campgrouds..

O well, I love to camp no matter where.
