Rt. 95 thru NC, SC and Ga.

Heading south from NJ to Fl. leaving NJ 12-28. My concern is the condition of Rt.95 from Emporia, Va. south, detours, etc.
Thanks for your help, safe travels.

Don't know of any detours, but you will run into construction areas from time to time. I have never traveled I-95 that I wasn't held up at least once due to a wreck or two. Prepare for it. I live on the GA coast.

It's been several years since I traveled that route but I do remember one low clearance on 95 in I think NC. At 12' 6" in the motor home we were in we did not have to detour but I am not sure what the height limit was. The only thing you have to do is take the exit and go straight back on if you are to tall.

I should add that my concern has to do with the floods last fall and the road closings they caused. We traveled 95, down and back last winter.
Thanks again.

The flood stuff and all that is pretty much cleared up. Barring anything unusual, you should see no issues all the way down.

Just did Richmond VA to Jacksonville FL on 95. No problems at all. Worst portion, pulling a FW, is 295 around Richmond which is very rough, and most of SC, also rough. By that, I mean some chucking, etc.

We went from I-40 in NC to Orlando on I-95 just before Thanksgiving and it was open the whole way down and back. I don't recall anything other than the typical construction that is always going on on some stretch of the road.

95 south is just fine, there are some areas under construction with some butt puckering concrete walls close to your lane, and some rough road with grooves and potholes... More annoying than menacing though. You'll make it but you wont enjoy the trip down. Good luck, Have Fun, Be Safe

If your planning on heading to Orlando from 95, I-4 has construction pretty much the whole way. Its worse going from O to 95, but Ive done it a few times now and there are a lot of bumps, pot holes and general rough road. There are a few lane changes too, as the road is being redone and you go from one side to the other. Its not terrible, but you'll see what I mean. Drive slow.

Just drove it 2 weeks ago. No problems at all. Minor construction, mostly in northern Florida. Wife put the Waze app on her Iphone, it's a really great tool. Let's you know about accidents, traffic slowdowns, road hazards, etc. We went straight through Richmond on 95, granted it was a Sunday around 5pm, so there wasn't much traffic. I hate everything north of Richmond on 95, south of there to Florida is my favorite part of the trip.

Don't take 95. I don't know where you are in jersey. I'm from north jersey and do the trip all the time. Just did it last week. Moving down for good in a few weeks. I'm not sure of the roads but head towards Charlotte, NC. Route 81 to something. I go through phillipsburg. Out 78. It's an hour slower but with 95 traffic and construction it's way faster. Plus a beautiful ride to boot. I set my GPS to Charlotte. Then reset it to Daytona. Eventually you will hit 95 but down in South Carolina.

Been down that way 5 times in the last 1 1/2 years. Just pass Richmond is a sweet ride all the way down. Some traffic in Jacksonville FL. Don't take the bypass(295) it takes you way far from 95 it's not worth it. Traffic always keeps moving. Over the years there were many stops and traffic due to construction. Recently it's been good most of the construction is complete. Have a nice trip. Been running that road 50 years. Used to take 301 when I was a kid in my old man's car 3 day trip.

PS: The worse part of the trip is from PA to Richmond, from Richmond all the way to FL is a piece of cake. I always hate the first 5 or 6 hours. Phila, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, Petersburg, VA. Oh! I have tried them all.

95 S conditions

Towed a TT on 95 through VA into Florida Nov 28-Dec 1. Came back north Dec 13-15 with just the truck. No problems, except for a wreck that slowed traffic down to 20 mph for a few hours. Road is good. Just stay alert, and drive safe.

height concerns

I travel from Okeechobee, Florida to Fredericksburg, Virginia 2 times each year pulling a 5th wheel that is almost 13' high and I can assure you there are no height problems. 95 is a main truck route and they are all taller than most travel trailers. Your biggest problem will be accidents that are always going to cause traffic backups.

Just be real careful when in Johnston County on 95 in NC. For some reason there is always a serious collision through there. Otherwise, its a good ride on south.
