Yes. We were just at a dealer looking at new units with my brother and that is exactly how the dealer did it. No battery at all in the TT, just hooked the umbilical cord from the lot truck to the TT. Ran everything perfectly.

You are welcome!
Of course this is all dependant on if your truck is wired properly and has the 12v charging circuit correctly connected in the 7 pin plug. Some do, some don't.

Picked up my trailer @ the dealer and both batteries were dead. So I plugged it in to the truck to use to power jack. It also charged the batteries on the way home. Great feature to have

I believe I'd be slightly more than mad and finding me another dealer as quickly as possible. There is NO excuse for that.
Even had you dropped it off for service and it took weeks to complete or it took an extended time for you to get there to pick it up, the trailer is in their 'care' while on their lot.
Totally dead batteries are often impossible to bring back to life. Shame on them for not disconnecting the batteries, (and then reconnecting them at pick-up) or keeping it plugged in until you got there.

I would carefully check the batteries again after some rest time. The 12V aux line from the truck is not sufficient to charge two dead batteries on a normal trip. Because of the length of the run, the gauge of the wire and other issues, the aux line will provide little more than enough current to maintain the charge on a good battery with the normal parasitic loads ( CO/propane Det etec). In addition, the dealer should never have allowed to leave the lot as you essentially had no power to operate the brakes should the trailer separate from the TV. Even if you externally charge the batteries, they will most likely never have the capacity they did before.

In my case the engine has to running for the 12V charge line will work. It will operate my slides etc. but the voltage drop does cause some issues with motor operation and speed at which it operates (labouring due to voltage drop).
OP should not have a problem to test 12 v operation to a buyer.

Many newer trucks have a 110 receptacle. Found my battery dead so ran a short extension and a battery charger ~~ works much faster even though the F350 has dual truck batteries.

I would turn the truck around and use jumper cables rather than try to use the wimpy 7- pin wiring.

truck charging TT
Recently I installed an Electrical winch on my Boat trailer, doing so I added a pair of #6-awg wires to a bumper mounted "Anderson" plug. I also have a 12VDC air compressor and an large gauge "extension cord" to connect to the boat's house battery system. Next project is to make a extension cord to another plug to pair up TV to TT.

I agree, but won't it be easier to sell with a battery on board so buyers see it as a self contained, working set up?

Don't know urgency of the need to demonstrate. The OP seemed to indicate a quick and easy way to do that; wasn't asking whether to buy a new battery. That said, I wouldn't sell or buy without a working battery.
