Running In The Rain

I have never seen this subject addressed before, and reading another thread here today brought this to mind:

How do travel trailer owners feel about traveling in the rain?

Wheel wells aren't all that well sealed, as well as most of the undercarriage.

To my surprise, a couple of years ago we traveled all one day without a thought until we stopped and found that the fridge chimney vent had ingested LOTs of water. Duct taping up the upwind side solved the problem, temporarily, but I'm wondering if there's a design problem there that others have also seen.

Or don't you "run" in the rain?

I don't like it, since road grime gets everywhere, and things like locks and slide mechanisms seems to need lubrication afterwards, but if we have a trip planned we just go anyway and roll with it. It gets a good washing as soon as I can afterwards.

x4 with no issues. Besides, the tires run cooler in the rain.

The only issue I've ever had was the battery boxes filling up with water. A couple small holes drilled in the bottom of took care of that.

The trailer gets a little water inside the slides right above the front tires, but otherwise, I put the TV in 4-auto and rock and roll.

I have the same problem that 2Evile4U has. I get some water on the floor under my slide where it sits above the tires. I guess it is because of the location of the slide and fenders. My old trailer would allow some water to come in the front compartment doors if you drove through standing water. This only happened a few times over the course of 10 years.

I've had no problems with water intrusion travelling in the rain. We just make sure to leave extra braking distance.

Drivin in the Rain

On the road many times in rain with 3 different TT's. Only problem ever, is that I drive slower so it takes longer getting to my destination.

We've driven in the rain with both a covered and uncovered underbelly and never had an issue with the underside or wheel wells. If you have hybrid with the big front bunk door getting blasted it might be a different story although our Roo did fine travelling in the rain.

Sometimes you can't avoid driving in the rain and our trailer gets soaked inside. Dry as can be when not in motion--folded up at home or opened up out camping--but when driving it turns into a swimming pool. I have had it at one repair shop three times to no avail; returned to the factory and they didn't fix it; and back in the shop again already this year. Time will tell if it got fixed this time.

We usually go unless very severe weather is expected.

We never let the weather dictate our plans. As long as you are comfortable pulling in the rain go for it.

I'd be the inclined to put some time and energy with a second helper to finding the source of this problem before taking it to any dealer if possible.
A hose can simulate hard hitting rain but in focussed ways and a set of eyes inside can help to spot where the problem is. Sometimes it takes a simple fix or mod to stop water intrusion as I found with my rear ramp on my Grey Wolf 26RR.
Good luck to you.
