Running Lights

Hi all,

I'm wanting to replace the incandescent running lights and tail lights on the outside of the TT with comparable LED's.

Has anyone done this already, and which LED's would you recommend?

If the incandescent lights use standard bulbs (1161, etc.) you can simply buy LED versions of these bulbs and change them, without having to change the fixtures themselves.

I changed the "scare" lights on the side of my Columbus from incandescent to LED bulbs in the existing fixtures.

Scare lights?

I guess I should have been more specific.... looking on Amazon, there are about 2 gazillion options.... just wondering which ones people have used and if they have been reliable or if they have had problems?

I took the name of the tail/stop light fixture maker and replaced the whole thing for reasonable. It worked great for me, giving the rear of the TT more visibility in daylight hours.

I did this on my 2014 A-frame. At first, I went to the automotive section at Walmart and to O-Reilly car parts. Pretty spendy, and most of them were "super brights". I did not want "super brights", I wanted basically the same brightness I already had. Spent some money anyway on normal brightness tail/brake/turn light LED replacements. I was really happy with these, but had a total of 11 bulbs to replace for the marker lights. Too much $$ at these stores.

After reading numerous reviews on Amazon, and taking one of my marker lights apart, I realized that with the marker light bulb replacements I had to worry about both brightness and physical size. Many of the LED replacements on Amazon were too tall to fit in the socket and let the lens snap in place.

I ended up finding some relatively short mid-priced LEDs in a 10 pack for about $8 a pack. They turned out slightly brighter than the incandescents but not excessively bright. I like the brightness because they are just bright enough to see in the daytime. This lets me check in the mirror that my 7 pin is still plugged in (I've had problems with losing contact while driving.)

Make sure the LEDs are intended for use in cars, and not computers. Computers have very regulated voltages, and so the LED driver circuits don't have to deal with a wide range of voltages. But in an RV or vehicle, voltage can be anywhere from 8 to 15 volts, and the driver circuit must survive and keep working across that range.

just my experiences

I just did this mod, I actually just received the lights and plan to replace them this weekend. I used superbrightleds.com. The tail lights and marker lights are a direct replacement and are sealed.

I purchased these, as have others on the forum. I think they work well.

Just be aware they are polarized, meaning if they don't light up you'll have to spin them 180 degrees.

EDIT: For tail lights I used these, however they were EXTREMELY difficult to get into the socket. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
