RV Service

I guess I've been lucky, as this is the first I've had to take my Coachmen in for service. Dropped it off on November 7 and hadn't heard a thing from the shop. stopped by today, and they told me they're waiting on parts (really, it took eight weeks for the original part to come in before I dropped it off for repair). My service guy had the day off, and the other person couldn't really tell me much more that they're waiting for the part.

My question is whether this is an RV industry standard, that is that once you drop your unit off for service it is a black hole until they call you some day to come pick it up?

Thanks for weighing in on whether I'm just getting terrible service or this is how the RV industry works.

I'm sorry to say... but we've learned here that dealerships don't always order parts when they say they have. Sometimes they're waiting for more parts to be ordered so they have a real pile of parts. Seems like it cuts their shipping costs. We've learned some people here have called the parts division of their particular line and learned that their dealership hadn't ordered anything.

Yep, it's what's standard anymore.
I dropped mine off in July and they're just now getting to it.
But, they are a smaller dealer and was often selling 90 units a week, this summer.

As often this is discussed on a daily basis, I'm surprised that you weren't aware of it.

Not always. This summer I had a couple warranty items and things I just wanted checked, plus I had them install vent covers. Setup an appt (3 weeks out) and left it for that day at 8:30 am, they ordered a part, it came in the next morning and I was out and done that afternoon. They 'mostly' did everything I asked and did a good job. Was it perfect ... no, but much better than many folks on here have had to deal with.

Guess it just depends.
