well...the instructions are part of it but u have to aim before the search will be successful. if u had a dish that found the sats automatically, the instructions would work.
what i had was an inline signal meter that i used by the dish to speed up the sat location process. (had a short cable off the dish (~6') with a connector on it. i would screw that cable to a meter then the cable leading to the trailer to the other side of the meter. once i had located the sat, i would remove the meter and put a coupling in place.
when u finally get the sats located, u will be aiming abt where the others camper's dishes are aiming. the antenna is very selective and has to be right on the signal.

Your best bet is to run a cable direct from the dish to the receiver and tune in the signal, this means moving the dish around until you get a signal. Then use the cable in the rig.

if ur going to aim ur dish, this gadget will help. they cost between $20 and $30. believe u can still find them at radio shack. you just plug the receiver in. attach this in the cable between the dish and the trailer. then manually aim ur dish until u get the best signal. if it isn't the right sat, aim again. the sats transmit on the same freq so u have to aim right at the one u want. ur receiver will tell u if ur on the right one.
i went to an automatic dish. just set it outside with a clear shot at the sw sky the go in and plug in. it does the rest.
there was times that i spent half hr trying to set up the old one (other times would get it in a minute).

I also forgot something. The kit came with this white cable that I think is referred to as a flat cable. It is not shown in the directions. What is this for?
