Looking at getting satellite service for the TT. Which provider gives better RV service and ease of setup Dish Network or Direct TV?

They both give great service. Doesn't matter if your in an rv or at home.
Your various options are going to be what kind off satellite receiver your going to use.
Mounted not mounted portable etc etc.
I use my dish from my shop at home and bought an extra receiver.
then I don't have to buy additional service.
so when I leave home camping I take my dish and set it up at camp ground.

Take your pick, depending on which one offers the best deal today. Get the service at home, and simply buy a portable dish for the RV, taking the receiver from home. Done it for years with no regrets. One reason we have sat at home.

I don't think it makes much difference. The way to really save though is to get satellite service at home.

Extra boxes are cheap, though if no one is home, just bring the one you have at home. Some service plans include up to 3 boxes as part of your basic service, but even if you add one it just not that much more.

One of the important things is nowing when your cable contract comes up for renewal. It is expensive to drop out early (and you can keep your home internet). But once you can dump your home cable you can switch to Dish or Direct and maintain you cable Internet...

We have had Dish for the last 6 years. We are and have been full time. If you are full time in an RV, do not buy the "equipment insurance". We did, only to filnd out 2 months ago, that, because we are full time in an RV, they could not honor the insurance, because on the "bouncing around of the receiver, etc." We have DVR with HD service. My wife, twlked with three different service people, with all about the same response.

I have Directv at home. I just purchased another dish on E-Bay, a tripod from Camping World and bring a reciever from home.

However, if you have no service at all yet, Dish Network offers a "take Dish along" package for RV'ers. I think they allow you to activate and deactivate your service whenever you want. When you go, you activate it. When you get home, you deactivate it. I don't know how they charge for that but I have gotten advertisments in the mail for RV service at $29.99. I don't know if that's a monthly charge or the minimum charge each time you activate the service.

For the receiver in the trailer it is just $10 a month and as you say, I can call to activate or deactivate whever I want; there is not a extra charge for either process. That being said, the charge is for the current billing cycle; if I call to activate on the first and call to deactivate on the 15th, I will still pay the $10 for the full month.

Thought so. Didn't make sense for them to bill you $.99 for a three day camping trip.

Actually you buy 30 day increments in advance, but you consume them 1 day at a time. You can turn your service on and off via cell phone...

Dish customer service didn't explain it to me that way when I activated the RV receiver.......but that doesn't really surprise me.

After suffering through all that you quickly find out you need a CSA that understands the process. I talked to several agents and was guided by forum posts on exactly what to ask.

The really cost effective thing to do is drop cable and get satellite. Taking you satellite box along from home is too simple and realistically much cheaper...

We have Direct TV at home and just recently purchased two standard receivers from Direct for the 5th wheel. We already have a Direct TV dish set on a tripod and I spent last Saturday running another cable from the entertainment center to the bedroom for the second receiver. With Direct, it's only another $6.00 each for the two receivers per month.

dish network just came out with a portable antenna that finds the sats itself. looks like the vue cube. may want to take a look. Tailgater - DISH Network
receiver and ant are 499.
looks like they will allow u to start and stop service w/o penalty. didn't look at the fine print though.
