Satellite signal meter

I have a dish mounted on a tripod. Does anyone know if there's some kind of meter you can get that helps you find the satellite? I've never done this before.

Yes- depends on many things-

What is dish type- oval, round? Standard def or high def? Manufacturer?

I'm not familiar with Bell....I have DirecTV. Bell sounds like Canada if I am not mistaken.

When I set up my DIRECTV oval antenna, I input the current location ZIP code into a DIRECTV onscreen antenna alignment help screen. It gives me tilt, elevation and azimuth (the last of which I ignore). I set the tilt and elevation on the antenna before I put it on its plumb-to-the-earth pedestal. I use an iPhone app, SatFinder Lite, to get a general pointing and to ensure no line-of-sight blockage. THEN I set the onscreen help screen to signal strength and start making small incremental changes in the pointing of the antenna. My wife tells me through an open window (or cell phone if I'm further away) what signal strength I'm getting and I change pointing until I get to 95% or better. I've never used a meter and I can do mine fairly quickly now.

You can get a cheap satellite signal meter it will give you a screaming signal as you get a better signal but u still have to put your coordinates in

I have a DirecTV and also use the Mr Dan method this will set up the 101 Sat that has most of the channels. But if you have DirecTV HD you have to be able to see 3 Sat at this same time. So I fine tune the 101 Sat with the azimuth and elevation then I switch the onscreen help to one of the other Sat and fine tune the tilt until I get the best numbers on the monitor. No signal meter required, by the way the meters only work on one Sat and are for SD TV and not HD. A HD meter will cost you big bucks 300 or more.

larryo, you'll need to go here to get the azimuth/elevation/skew data for the Nimiq birds:

The Shaw Direct Sat finder, second to last on this page, will work for you:

It's an audio style meter, which I actually prefer to the analogue meters. It frees up your eyeballs for tweaking the dish.

Bell is not RV friendly when it comes to their Sat installations and typically will not offer much in the way of support.
