Satellite TV

FYI, just switched to Direct TV at home thinking bringing a receiver with me for the RV would be an easy thing to do.....NOT.

I have a 2009 Charleston with the King Dome 18" stationary dish on the roof.

Turns out this only works with standard definition (SD). Also turns out Direct TV does not directly sell SD anymore...I finally went thru a local dealer whom knew what I was trying to do...I received the new Genie system in 3 rooms, with a standalone High Definition (HD) receiver in a bedroom. The trick is it must be the H24 unit. This unit can be switched to accommodate the SD dish on the RV (basically set to 18" round dish and multi-switch instead of the slim dish and SWM). It also talks to the genie when home and provides all the features.

It works perfect, and I cannot even tell its SD.

Not sure about them not selling the standard receivers. The std receiver that we have at the house and it's the one we take with us when we go camping. Started to act up so we called Direct for a replacement. They tried to sell us on HD but we told them that we didn't want it and just wanted a replacement receiver. After a little bit of squabbling they finally gave in and replace it. At no cost. We use it with the Wineguard portable (sorta like kingdome but you place it on the table or on a stand) never had a problem with it.

We switched to Direct tv in Aug. Have a Wineguard Carry out. Have had trouble getting an H24 keep sending and H25 that does not work . Finally went and bought a regular dish to work with the H25. So have a $700. dish that is not workable So don't spend a lot of money on 1 unless you have the right receiver. The dome does not get HD but we did not care.

Yes the H25 works with a tripod dish. But we like the dome no work setting it up. Just set it down and it finds the satellite. We bought the dome several years ago but will probably just have to put it in the shed and forget about it. Had a tv guy say that the networks are trying to do away with the domes.

I'm no expert, but my Dishnetwork works SD on a Winegard GM-1518 carry out. It is discontinued but available. It was originally built for Direct TV (HD) but at some point they added a switch to allow Dish or Hughes. I love that it portable and works so well. It is SD, but that's good enough for now. According to Dish techs, I can get the VuQube and with it, HD.

I just spoke with DTV a couple days ago and they will send me a SD box at no charge if I want to add a SD satellite. Not sure why you had such a difficult time.
