Seat Belts

Does everyone have a dedicated seat belt when traveling? Can a seatbelt be installed in a rear facing seat?
Our Solera has the driver & passenger belts and two at the dinette. We have 3 grandkids that will be traveling with us this summer ! Does anyone else have this problem ?

Can't legally have anyone seated facing the rear. My MH does have side facing seatbelts. If you have a couch facing the side you might be able to add some belts there.

As far as I know there are no legal restrictions regarding the direction the seat is facing as long as the seat has a seat belt.

Seat belt kits can be purchased from a variety of sources & the installation is fairly straight forward.

Ah, good to know any place is legal! I was told by a RV dealer rear facing wasn't legal. Can't believe everything you hear.

I read on the internet (must be true) that only the driver & front passenger has to be belted! Unless they are the ages of 4-16 then they have to have a belt. They also said side facing seats should never have a child car seat! I think I'm just going to add a couple of rear facing belts and go with it!

Louisiana is a little strange on this one. I haven't found an RV or child example but for adults, as long as all existing seat belts are in use, the additional unbelted passenger will not be ticketed. So, four adults in the back of a car, if the three seat belts are used, the unbelted passenger is legally ok. I would think that at a minimum, all minors should be properly belted in. Adults in Louisiana wouldn't have to be if there are no more belts to be used.

My RV was missing one of the 4 seatbelts it was supposed to have. The factory made good without hesitation. But I learned some things. The factory will only install seatbelts in seating positions approved by the government and that have sufficient floor strength to anchor the belt in the event if an accident. Dealers avoid adding seatbelts for same reason. Otherwise they open themselves to liability issues.

There are people on this forum who have added seatbelts. The ones that contacted me were capable of adding sufficient reinforcement to their floors.

My SOB has 7 seatbelts, but 8 seats. There was a sticker on the slide wall with a warning that the backward facing seat next to the window should not have a seatbelt, yet the outer bench seat puts a passenger facing backward directly behind the driver.
