Second year warranty in hand

I bought my new Salem on 10/2/12 and never heard about the second year warranty for $150 until I joined this forum. Why is it so much a secret? Dealer wanted to sell me their warranty though. Anyways, I printed off the form from a thread on this site, wrote a check for $150, even wrote the date of 1/14/13 on the form when it was sent. Just came back in the mail today and signed and stamped paid by Forest River on 1/22/13. Okay, now I am a happy camper. Pun intended

Congrats on the 2nd year warranty, it' a no brainer IMO. Most dealers don't mention the 'secret' warranty because they don't make a dime of commision on it like they do on other 2nd party extended warranties.

Some have said that the warranty form was supposed to be in the Forest River manual that came with it, not in my case! Thanks to all of you, I would have never known about it. But, you know what, Forest River came through on a deal that said "10 days from purchase". I assume they know I have only camped in my driveway so far with this rig based on my purchase date and where I live. But that is the way it should be and I am thankful that I bought a Forest River product. I may not be 100% happy with my dealer for not telling me, but i am happy with my manufacturer for backing me up.

When I bought my 2012 V-Cross fiver last February the dealer tried to sell me an extended service contract for almost $2,000 and claimed that they didn't know about the second year warranty from Forest River. Reading on this forum for many months I knew about it, down loaded the form and sent it to Forest River with a check for $150 they signed the form and returned it to me within a week. Forest River also told me that the dealers are not required to tell us about the second year warranty!

Extended Warranty

When we first puchased our Crusader 270RET in November of 2011, the dealer explained the one year warranty in detail on this coach. They also mentioned that I could apply for the second year warranty on this same coach before the first years warranty would expire. The cost would be around a hundred bucks or so, no exact amount given.
Well low and behold, when we went to apply for our second years warranty, we were told that the Crusader models did not offer a second year warranty from the factory and that we would have to purchase an extended warranty through the dealership or another outside source.
We have talked with everyone involved...at this time we still do not have a second year warranty and probably never will...
Since nearly everything was replaced during the first year of our ownership, probably don't need it anyway...
No further comment on that subject.......we will purchase another unit within five years as our permanent home...

warranty

Thanks for asking, but we have decided that since our Sunnybrook, which we have owned since 2003 has never gone back to the dealership for anything, that we would treat the Crusader the same way..We have put some bucks back in the bank (safe) and if anything does go wrong that I cannot fix, we will just have it done...
Anything that has needed some kind of repair on the Sunnybrook, I have done it myself...nothing major has ever happened to it..
Does that make sense at all...just hate having to argue with anyone about anything.
The Crusader had enough things wrong with it that Forest River had to fix it or take it back..their choice...they chose to fix anything and everything we could find wrong with it, I mean right down to the lug nuts on the wheels....really.

Well, darn! Our Lexington is now 18 months old. We bought an after market extended warranty but never knew about the second year warranty from Forest River. We have had problems from day one and have continuing problems. Forest River is looking at our claim now. The dealer we bought from is out of business and there isn't another one near. So glad we bought that after market plan!

Well that was one of the reasons I started this post is because FR had the offer but the only way you would ever know about it is through a forum such as this. FR told the dealers that they were not required to tell a potential buyer about it. I assume to give the dealer their 'opportunity'. I'm glad I got mine at such a later date, and I am appreciative. I still do not understand the secrecy, or even the offer. When a buyer finds this out after the effect, and they are declined, how does that sit with them? Has that 'feel good' sale just turned sour?

FWIW...we dealt with RVW and RV Direct and both had the FR 2nd year warranty form included in the paperwork when we picked up the campers. A dealer not telling you about the FR 2nd year warranty tells me all I need to know about them.
