As long as DW doesn't see you using the abbreviation DM on a camping trip she didn't go on.....

Depending on how the post reads, the "D" stands for Dear, Darling, Damn, Dumb, etc. You're the one who provides the meaning.

No water that I can remember.

My secret confession--
I like shoot 'em up movies!
I also usually like "chick flicks"....... You know, guy/girl relationship movies.
Wife and I trade off.
If she watches ex governor Arnold S. in "Last Stand" with me (last nite!), I watch her choice next time.

First time out in our brand new TT last year, parking at what the cg called a pull-through was a bit of an experience. Pull-through meant pull through at about a 30 degree angle, make a 90 degree right turn then back up. Imho, there was a reason the electric cord is 20 feet long and the sewer hose at least 15. In DH's mind, I needed to be a _lot_ closer...so we were both very carefully nursing the skid marks on our tongues by the time the TT was parked to suit him. Thought it best to stay in the car while he unhooked so I could pull the TV forward and we could be cool off.

We had 20+ years tenting experience. Could consistently set camp and be popping the first adult beverage within 20 minutes. Easy-peasy. We had 0 campering experience.

So...I sat in 100 degree heat with skid marks on my tongue in the car and watched from the rear view mirror while our beautiful brand-spanking-new camper rolled toward a gully with DH chasing after it (as though he could do anything if he caught it!) We totally space Rule #1 - chalk wheels before unhooking camper.

We watched helplessly while it rolled backward, one tire kissed the curb & breathed a sigh of relief when the camper didn't jump over it...until the little wheel on the tongue let the camper do a graceful, slow-motion pirouette still toward the ravine.

Turned out to be a great weekend. Camper ultimately parked itself beautifully, much better than I could (or still can, for that matter) ... and we met a few great people who had to come over to rib us about the experience. Now we can finally laugh.

Secret confession: We don't like crowds and heavy traffic, so we almost never camp (or travel at all) on holidays, like this weekend. President's Day, Columbus Day? Yeah, we'll do that. Even Arbor Day. And Myrtle Beach is not bad in the winter. That's the only time we'll go. Key West? We'll go in the summer when it's unbearably hot but relatively deserted.

We never went on holidays for the same reason. I HATE taking a shower at a shower house when it is crowded. As we have our own shower now this year I am going camping on a holiday weekend (4th of July) for the first time ever. Guess that was 2 confessions at once (I will throw in a 3rd...I can't spell)

Well, ok - not anonymous at all.

My first: I approach every campground with absolute fear and dread of having to park my rig. When I get backed into the site, I still feel like it was luck rather than skill! More times than not, it's not a complete mess - it actually goes pretty well.

I know how you feel sometimes. I have a friend who always tells people when backing their boats into a slip to "Back up until it sounds expensive!" I almost did that with out TT recently.

Another thing you will notice after you camp more. When you pull up and back in like a pro on your first try, no one will be watching. When you take multiple tries, there will be a crowd of gawkers. Don't worry about it, they have all done the same thing.

It just takes practice but it never hurts to be a little over cautious and just remember to back up until it sounds exp......

I hit 1 of those stinking posts across the road last year at 1st Landing State Park, and scuffed up my truck front fender.....that goodness the post was mounted in sand, and "gave" some.

I have backed into a tree and hit my ladder, no damage. I have hit a trash can, resulting in a slight mark on a awning support.

The 1st time I took this camper out, I tried to get it into a spot that I had gotten my Trailmanor into.....didn't even think I was gonna get out of that bind. I then promptly ran over a tree stump at another site....that goodness it didn't take out my waste water dump valves.

And these are just the mishaps that I admit to.

as a former otr driver, there were times I could back a trailer into a tight spot like it had eyes on the back and it was doing the parking itself. other times when I was given my choice of doors and nobody parked near me, I couldn't find the dock with both hands and a map.

I think the gawkers at campgrounds are just counting the attempts to see if you do it in fewer, as many or more times than they took to get parked. blind side backing is what gives me the most fits.
