Security Freaks vs Take it all

There are the type of people that will lock down a rubber tie down strap with a padlock and there are they type that will go to the campsite, unlock all doors and storage and leave it that way until they pack up.

Which category are you in? Or do you fall somewhere in between? FWIW, I lean toward the more cautious type but I don't want to have my concerns put a burden on our getaways.

Last weekend the Sheriff showed up at the campground. Apparently some unsupervised kids dialed 911 on the pay phone and ran off. The folks next to us were gone. When they returned and found out about the sheriff being there they worried as the lady told me they never lock their trailer or TV.
I am not that foolish!

I did buy a Trimax coupler lock. Tell me someone ain't gonna look at me weird when they see me putting this on at the campground. HAHA!

But I really purchased it for when I thought I would need off-site storage for my TT.

If I leave the campground, I lock up. If there is an event at the campground that takes me away from my TT for any length of time, I lock up.

For a short trip to the dumpster or campground store. I kind of gauge it by who's around....

I'm locked up when asleep.

Fortunately the little campground where I keep my TT has never had any problems.....because the "regulars" there all look out for each other.

I have always lived by the idea that if somebody REALLY wants what you have, unless you are present to stop them, they are going to take it. I keep good insurance on anything of value that I own so I do not worry about it. I have seen first hand a FW pin lock and a ball coupler lock defeated rather easily with some good tools.
If somebody wants mine and they have something capable of towing it they can have it.

Just like Hudlow said. I lock up the TV at night and the TT when we leave. If we are staying around the CG we will leave it unlocked.

Locks are for honest people. If a thief wants something of yours they will get it. They may have to work a bit harder if it is locked up but they are usually prepared for that. But, no need to make it easy for anyone to steal your stuff. Changing the 751 locks on your storage areas might be a good idea since EVERYONE has a key. I would be more concerned about vandalism than theft. I keep my TT locked up in the driveway at home. If you have a MH there is a lot more to lose.

While I'm at the site I'll leave things out, grill, chairs, etc. but the second I leave or go to bed that stuff gets put up and locked. I grew up in south Atlanta, it's just a habit for me is all, lock your stuff up or it will be gone. I've never had a problem the few times I have left stuff out.

I don't have the 751's for mine. So I got lucky there. But they still wouldn't take much to pick.

I lock when we leave the dogs at camp. I don't want them getting away if someone nosy wants to enter my camper. Otherwise, I leave unlocked we're in/out all the time. More cost associated with damages then what is stolen.

What's the difference between an "opportunist" and a thief?

Don't they both take something that isn't theirs to take?

We lock it up. I won't take the chance on an insurance agent claiming we were neglectful in not securing what is ours.

I'll even lock the door if I'm taking Fred for a walk while DH is "checking his eyelids for pin holes".

I wouldn't want someone walking in while *I* am taking a nap.

It's always locked while sitting in our back yard. We worked out a signal: If the step rail is folded across the door it's LOCKED. If the step rail is out it's UNlocked. Just a reminder for us to lock it up when we're finished doing whatever it is we're doing in it here at home.

I absolutely *detest* scumbag thieves.

Have 5th Wheel.....Always lock door when we leave our site by truck or a walk.....Never lock up refrig/BBQ/chairs etc anytime.....Front storage usually locked (tool box)....side storage doors seldom locked...again it depends on CG and who is around..Campers do not steal from campers as they have no room for it!!!!!..J

Everything that has a lock to it...gets locked...all other accessories hanging out under the awning are fair game, I do not attempt to secure those items

Easy pickens are just that. I lock the trailer when we leave the area. Chairs etc are left out if we feel comfortable at the campground. There are some that I wouldn't leave anything out. Some were just too transient. Btw, claymors and det wire work dandy too...*lol

With this being a public forum, and members often posting where they are camping, what they are camping in, and plans of attending something outside campground, it may be wise not to mention what you do and don't lock up. Just a heads up.

Chairs, grill, sewer hose= no big deal. Changed all locks to one key within a month of having new TT. Lock everything at night, even with dogs outside. For genny, I route 3/4 inch cable thru the wheel vs. back bumper- although I should get the metal handle cover for my Honda 2000.

Both are thieves. And I suspect if I left 10 one hundred dollar bills on a table outside the RV, the "opportunist" would take all 10, not just one.
