I have WebRoot installed on my computer because I felt that was better than Kaspersky I previously had. I didn't trust Kaspersky after the Russian connection (which I'm not sure was very accurate or true). WebRoot was highly recommended by my computer geek and so far I think it's doing its job -- but it may be a little too sensitive but I'm not sure either.

Get and run Malwarebytes Antimalware. You can download it for free from their website. It does a pretty good job of finding unwanted spyware and adware that act the way you are describing. It also detects many things your antivirus won't.

And no, I'm not experiencing any of this on Windows 10 and Chrome.

ads - popups - site safety

We use McAfee All Access Total Protection. Zero popups Zero Ads Zero Self Advertising(which is what your getting, trying to sell you more from original company) Sometimes they let things through so you have to buy more blocking measures. McAfee does not.

Windows 10 and Chrome, no problems. Check your installed program list and see if anything looks suspicious.

I reset my Chrome browser and it's been fine since. Kind of PITA due to having to sign in each time I want my googlemail. I will try to get that fixed. I haven't tried any other sites except this one but this one was where I was having all the problems. Hope it's fixed for good!!

My problems were only with my desk top. My iPhone has been OK. Hopefully doing the Chrome reset on the PC will continue to keep those pop ups at bay.

That has exactly nothing to do with the Chrome browser.

I never said it did. The attack was associated there based on Norton's description of the event, thought it might be related to the experience users are having, as I have not seen this here in my two years plus years here.

I started to have problems with Ad Choices on this site about 8 to 10 weeks ago. The pop-up videos take over the browser and pull you back to the ads at each change in the ad choice topic. It is very annoying!! Ad Choices will put tracking software and Trojans on your system. I have had to edit my registry and delete my history numerous times. At one point I performed a soft restore, then booted into safe mode to run anti virus programs. If the problem persists, my next course of action will be to abandon FRF and make a formal complaint to Microsoft. Microsoft will revoke credentials and set blocks on their browser system using their defender program if they get numerous complaints.

The laptop came with Windows 10. That sits in the background unused. Loaded Windows 7 and Norton. Zero problems with Explorer. Never use Google for anything although Bing search is getting as bad as Google with capturing info.

I am running Windows 10 and using Chrome. For the last 2 weeks and only with this forum, the post I am reading gets changed to another page with either some kind of ad or even the nuisance page that tells you to contact microsoft at a fake number. Hitting the back button would take me back to the post but sometimes not for long.

This afternoon after reading what others have posted here I downloaded and installed malwarebyte for a one month free trial and so far it is good.

I was having some similar problems a while back. That and some pages loaded really slow. So on my laptop I put in a URL blocker. Solved the problems. Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File

Only downside. If I do a google or bing search, clicking on entries that are ads (paid for listings) - they often don't work. I think it is because you first go to a site that records the access before redirecting you where you wanted to go...

Had it last month. Forget all the downloads. Just open settings on your phone. Choose notifications and scan down the list. Turn off the ones that you don't care about and that will stop it. The programs that they are trying to get you to download are the ones that put it there in the first place.
